Job Title: Sharpener

Department: Operations

Reports To: Plant Manager

Position Requirements:

• Must be able to stand in one location for 3 hours at a time.
• Ability to learn to operate 3 separate knife grinding machinery.
• Basic operation and maintenance of assigned machinery.
• Perform proper machine start up.
• Perform basic break downs and wash down.

Monday through Thursday operation: Day shift

Salary: $14.00 /hour

Duties and Responsibilities Set up and operate a variety of machinery to produce sharpened cutlery parts and instruments. Sharpening may include hollow grinding, edging, honing, buffing, sanitizing and/or drying various sizes of cutlery product. May also be required to clean and calibrate sharpening machines.

Basic Responsibilities

• Work as part of a Line Team, having responsibility maintaining line throughput and quality during the sharpening process.
• Can perform all tasks conducted by the team in the sharpening process, including, but not limited to: Hollow Grinding, Edging, Honing, Buffing, Sanitizing, Drying, Put-Away processes.
• Rotate through all job tasks rather than being assigned to a specific task on a permanent basis.
• Maintain equipment and materials in a neat, clean and orderly fashion. On a daily basis, inspect and perform minor maintenance on assigned equipment.
• Efficiently move dull product from carts in staging and/or storage areas into production area
• Efficiently move sharp product from production area onto carts to staging and/or storage areas.
• Report issues with cutlery and/or knife box quality/quantity variances to management.
• Maintain a clean, neat and orderly work area.
• Report issues and problems to Management.
• Will support and abide by the company’s safety program and all safety initiatives, policies and procedures.
• Operate equipment safely and efficiently. Comply with OSHA and company standards
• Other duties as assigned

Requirements

Physical and Visual Activities:

• On a daily basis, must be able to remain standing on both feet for a minimum of 3 hours at a time.
• Must be able to frequently communicate and constantly have visual acuity
• Must be able to constantly operate machinery safely
• Must be able to stand and move about the building and/or reach, bend or twist
• Ability to lift up to 35 lbs.
