BASIC FUNCTION

The Accounting Supervisor will supervise employees responsible for coordination and management of the Financial Accounting monthly close process, the preparation and distribution of related monthly/quarterly/annual financial statements for internal\external use, and fixed assets processing. Performs, supervises, and delegates tasks in the areas of financial accounting, financial reporting, and fixed assets. The Accounting Supervisor interacts with all departments – in particular Accounting, Supply Chain, Logistics, HR and IT – to ensure accuracy of data, and will apply principles of accounting to analyze financial information and prepare financial reports under the direction of the Controller.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Financial Accounting
    • Execute month-end, quarter-end, and annual close duties, including accruals and reviewing financial information to ensure the financials are accurately and timely reported. Prepare and post journal entries, and reconcile accounts
    • Routine General Ledger Maintenance of Company Codes, Profit Centers, Cost Centers, Cost Accounts or Plants.
    • Year-end financial roll forward
    • Monthly execution of Allocation cycles
    • Modification of cost center allocation rates within allocation cycles
    • Monthly execution of Sales Validation, Unearned Revenue, Standard Cost Update, Assigned Balance Sheet Reconciliations, Payroll Entry Processing, Financial Statements, and other reports.

  • Financial Reporting
    • On a monthly basis, analyze variances with balance sheet accounts and income/expense reports to identify any potential issues prior to close and report on unusual spending. Understand root cause and drive for corrective action. Prepare monthly variance analysis and reporting packages for various management teams
    • Research and application of technical IFRS & US GAAP requirements.
    • Impairment testing for the different Cash Generating Units (CGU), Goodwill, and Fixed Assets

  • Fixed Assets
      • Oversee daily operation of and monthly reporting processes for Fixed Assets including but not limited to
      • Ownership of Fixed Asset subledger in SAP
      • IFRS 16 Lease Accounting and Reporting
      • Asset setup and master data maintenance
      • AFE processing and user support
      • Maintenance of depreciation & amortization schedules – for fixed assets and leases
      • Establish and monitoring performance against key Fixed Assets KPIs
      • Prepare, analyze and distribute monthly capital expenditure and AFE reports
      • Develop and maintain documentation of Fixed Assets procedures
      • Reconciliation of Fixed Assets accounts and subledger
      • Oversee daily operation of and monthly reporting processes for Payroll & Benefits accounting including but not limited to
      • Accounting for payroll via payroll system output and accruals
      • Reconciliation of payroll and benefits accounts
      • Oversight of mapping within payroll system
  • Audit
    • Facilitate internal and external audit needs as needed.
    • Technical support for the annual financial audit
    • Development of accounting manual(s)

  • Team Leadership
    • Create, lead, develop, and mentor a team
    • Establish annual goals for self and team, complete mid-year and annual performance reviews
    • Leverage strengths of the finance team members, help to clarify roles and responsibilities and develop and implement training programs in order to maximize and reach optimal individual and organizational goals
    • Provide leadership in strengthening internal communications with staff at all levels throughout the organization; create and promote a positive and supportive work environment

QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
  • 5+ years relevant experience
  • Understanding of and ability to apply IFRS and US GAAP reporting requirements
  • Extensive experience using automated accounting and reporting systems
  • Experience with SAP FI-CO and other integrated modules
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with both functional and cross-functional teams
  • Relationship-building skills; develop and maintain productive relationships with extended Baystar team and Service Providers
  • Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedures
  • Commitment to safety
  • Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, commitment and accountability
  • MS Office application competence (Excel, Powerpoint, Word)
  • Adaptability and flexibility

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE

  • ERP system implementation experience
  • Experience in Chemical or Manufacturing environment
  • Demonstrated department leadership

PHYSICAL CAPACITY REQUIREMENTS

This position requires the incumbent to:

  • Follow safety requirements for the role
  • Wear required PPE (eye protection, noise protection, etc.) when inside plant environment, or where directed by signage
  • Lift up to 10 pounds
  • Walk safely in and around industrial areas
  • Work under deadline pressure within an environment that demands attention to safety and detail
  • Sit or stand for extended periods of time
  • Work at computer for significant periods of time throughout the day
