Job Summary

Residence Life at the University of Colorado Boulder encourages applications for an Assistant Director of Supervision! This is a 12-month, live out professional exempt position within Residence Life. The primary purpose of this position is to support the program development, supervision, facilities and hall and community development of an entire residential neighborhood at CU Boulder. This role will be a pivotal linkage to ensure that students are prepared to be outstanding contributors to their residence halls, their classes, the campus, and to society.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

Neighborhood Development & Supervision

  • Directly supervise up to 6 professional master’s level hall directors, and 70+ student staff members in multiple capacities.
  • Support training and professional development efforts to encourage the growth and learning of professional staff within the neighborhood.
  • Conduct intentional performance reviews for professional staff and maintain ongoing accountability committed to supervisory learning.
  • Assist the implementation of processes to recruit, hire, train, supervise, and evaluate very hardworking, student affairs focused staff at all position levels of Residence Life.
  • Support ongoing efforts to recruit, hire and train student staff within the neighborhood.
  • Assist hall directors to build inclusive and caring relationships with student staff and students within the residential community.
  • Support the development and integration of faculty within residential spaces through living learning communities and residential academic programs.
  • Own the development of neighborhood traditions and curricular approach efforts to deepen student learning and belonging.
  • Assist outreach efforts that uphold community standards and support student health, wellness and safety.
  • Support students and families and provide resources to support student health and wellness.
  • Advocate student concerns to the university and community populations.

Operations & Administration

  • Guide residence life initiatives to create a seamless residential environment that exceeds student needs and expectations.
  • Assist Summer Conference/Summer School housing operations for assigned university residence halls.
  • Serve as a residence life liaison to maintenance, environmental services, dining services, reservations, and finance units for neighborhood needs and development.
  • Support facilities, environmental services and security staff to ensure safe, secure residential spaces for all students within the neighborhood.

External Relations

  • Provide excellent support and leadership to all external partners through service minded attention to the broader housing, student affairs, and university missions, and serve on student affairs/academic committees as needed.
  • Assist in developing academic residential initiatives that accelerate the academic, interpersonal/behavioral, and leadership skills for all residential students.
  • Collaborate with occupancy management and faculty for residential spaces within RAPs and other specialty communities.
  • Talk to parents regarding concerns for students in the halls.
  • Assist with Orientation and pursue opportunities to deepen the class year experience within the residence halls.
  • Assist in campus retention and enrollment management efforts.

Strategy, Planning, Leadership, & Assessment

  • Provide exceptional leadership for all strategy, planning, implementation, and assessment, all assigned initiatives, and all committee work in Residence Life and the Division of Student Affairs.
  • Develop, implement, and interpret assessment opportunities for residence life committed to community development.
  • Assist in the development and provide leadership for completion of strategic goals and initiatives that further the organizational philosophy, mission, and programs within Residence Life.
  • Act as representative of Residence Life and student affairs on campus.

Fiscal Resource Management

  • Administrate all fiscal processes with maximum integrity and timeliness.
  • Follow all federal, state, university and departmental budget procedures.
  • Assist in managing the residence life budgets.
  • Allocate budget dollars to support critical initiatives.

Emergency Response

  • Direct and evaluate all emergency and crisis responses.
  • Serve in an on-call rotation for 10,000+ residents.
  • Provide crisis management assistance through immediate response and follow up.
  • Uphold departmental and university crisis response policies and procedures.

What You Should Know

  • All University of Colorado Boulder employees are required to follow the campus COVID-19 vaccine requirement. New employees are responsible for providing proof of vaccination or receiving a medical or religious exemption within 30 days of employment.
  • Monday - Friday, 8:00am-5:00pm, plus regular evening and weekend commitments. Flexible work schedule may be available. This position serves in an emergency on-call rotation that requires occasional physical response to campus on nights and weekends.

What We Can Offer

  • The salary rate is $66,000 annually.

What We Require

  • Master’s Degree in Student Affairs and Higher Education or equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute.
  • 3 years of job related experience including supervision experience.

What You Will Need

  • Operational knowledge of technology, computer programs, and budget development.

What We Would Like You to Have

  • Experience supervising professional staff.
  • Demonstrated experience with students conduct, crisis intervention, and emergency response.
  • Demonstrated dedication to social justice and inclusion in a residential setting.
  • Experience with a first year student experience residential program.
  • Experience with developing learning outcomes and evaluations.
  • Experience partnering closely with academic affairs and university faculty members in an academically rich residential environment, preferably a residential college or residential curriculum model.
