Job description
Building on ROCK's close working partnerships in the community to strengthen child and youth mental health services through clearer pathways, effective and efficient services, and strong sector and cross-sector partnership in Halton, the Brief and Walk-In Therapist will provide single session therapy to children and their families as part of our Milton Walk-In Clinic. This position also provides brief therapy services and support to younger children and their families.
Please note this is a permanent part-time position, working 14 hours weekly starting December 1st, 2022.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Maintain a primary focus on the provision of a goal-oriented therapeutic encounter.
- Work within the practice guidelines and paradigm articulated by ROCK for walk-in therapy in Georgetown and Acton.
- Provide referrals to families for community resources.
- Collaborate closely with the ROCK Mobile Crisis Counsellor to connect clients who require further services to the appropriate referral pathway.
- Ensure that all required centre reporting information, including all required documentation, records, and statistical data is submitted according to procedures and meets professional, licensing, and legal requirements.
- Work autonomously in an off-site location while adhering to the Mission, Vision, and Values of the organization and the goal of the program.
- Promote the direction of the program and centre by engaging in identifying, developing, and implementing program goals, projects, or services.
- Supervise the clinical and administrative work of students/trainees.
- Work as part of a team to respond to the needs of a developing program through consultation with stakeholders (internal and external).
- Participate in individual and group supervision and related training opportunities.
- Operationalize client safety through adhering to established policies and guidelines that ensure consistency in the delivery of quality and safe care, and by identifying and reporting any client safety incidents.
- Abide by the specific requirements of Section 28 of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, as well as any further health and safety responsibilities outlined in the agency’s policies and procedures.
- Other duties as may reasonably be assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
- Master of Social Work degree or equivalent from a recognized university.
- Eligibility for registration with the Ontario College of Social Workers and/or the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario.
Experience:
- Experience working within a brief service environment.
- A minimum of two years' experience in a children’s mental health treatment setting.
- Post-graduate training in brief collaborative, competency-based therapy approaches such as narrative, solution focused, and dialogical approaches.
- Relevant knowledge and skill in the assessment and treatment of children, youth, and families that are encountering mental health issues.
- As we are assembling a multi-member team, it would be considered a valuable asset if the applicant has practice or training in one or more of the following skill areas:
- Providing group treatment OR facilitating parent events.
- CBT or trauma assessment skills.
- Experience working across the age continuum using clinical frames, such as systemic family therapy, attachment, and developmental lenses.
- Knowledge of the community resources available in Halton Hills.
Skills:
- Strong verbal and non-verbal communication skills.
- Solid computer literacy skills to support real-time data entry into a client information system.
- Bilingualism is an asset. The ability to speak any second language is valued.
Additional Requirements:
- Access to reliable transportation in alignment with program needs.
- Proficient in the use of technology and working from a virtual environment, as required of the position. MAC OS operating systems experience preferred.
- A current (within three months) criminal reference check with vulnerable sector search.
