Job Description

Reporting to the Finance and Operations Manager for the Division of Human Resources, the Business Operations Coordinator will provide assistance with financial and business operations for the division. Primary responsibilities include preparing day-to-day financial and administrative transactions to ensure compliance with university, state, and foundation policies and procedures. This position will also analyze financial and budgetary information and interact with departments across the university. This position requires prior experience with understanding, interpreting, and applying policies and procedures in an operational setting along with an understanding of the role of Human Resources within an organization. The business operations coordinator will exercise initiative and independent judgement while using discretion with information.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in business or related field or equivalent level of training and/or experience.
  • Experience in administrative planning and coordination in a professional environment.
  • Previous experience with fiscal coordination and practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze data and draw conclusions.
  • Demonstrated experience communicating clearly, effectively, and diplomatically with diverse constituencies.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize multiple competing demands.
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise excellent judgment when working with confidential and sensitive information.
  • Demonstrated experience with computer applications: MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Adobe Acrobat, SharePoint, Teams, Google Drive; proficiency with spreadsheets and database applications.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, organizational, analytical, writing and editing skills, including the ability to draft presentations, reports, correspondence, etc.
  • Ability to initiate tasks and work independently to task completion with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrated commitment to the Virginia Tech Principles of Community.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of university, state, and foundation finance and business best practices, policies and procedures.
  • Experience with accounts receivable responsibilities.
  • Experience in a higher education finance, accounting or budget operation.
  • Experience with Banner, HokieMart, Chrome River, MicroStrategy, FINTRACS, TimeClock Plus, and other university systems.
  • Experience in event and meeting coordination.

Commensurate with experience with a salary range of $46,000-$50,000 per year
