About the role
Chief Architect – Retirement Services is a highly talented and multifaceted IT executive role responsible for the overall technical architecture vision and technology plan for Group Retirement, driving capital technology investment and transformation. This role will focus on understanding and applying existing, new, and emerging technologies to transform and optimize business and operating models and will have a primary role leading the business through immediate rapid transformation to autonomous independence.

What you need to know:
  • Formulate Strategy and Guide Execution: Facilitate business and IT alignment through collaborative consultation with our business, driving the organization’s digital business strategies and balancing innovation and growth; Leads the analysis of business and operating models, market trends and the technology industry to determine their potential impact on the enterprise’s business strategy, direction and architecture; Constructs technology-enabled business and operating models and provides viable options and visibility into execution issues; Build architecture roadmap and strategies by which to measure execution success and fulfillment of overall business goals and strategies.
  • Orchestrate the Delivery of Business Outcomes: Develop diagnostic and actionable deliverables that help business guide investment decisions in support of executing business strategy. Leads analysis of the business’ future-state capabilities and future (and current) IT environment to detect critical deficiencies and recommend solutions for improvement to drive the business forward. Collaborates within the federated architecture consortium to find the right balance between enterprise risk and agility. Build architecture roadmap and strategies by which to measure execution success and fulfillment of overall business goals and strategies.
  • Manage the Solutions Architecture & Engineering Practice: Mature architecture to enable of strategy creation, and technology innovation; Participate in federated architecture practice developing standards, guardrails, and cross cutting strategies to drive common platforms while enabling federated autonomy and speed; Manage a talent pool of engineering leads that work with application delivery teams in delivering technical & business capabilities while rationalizing the Retirement Services technology portfolio
  • Plan and Manage the Core IT Platform Portfolio: Presents gap analyses and/or IT investment roadmaps that reflect the status of the existing IT platform portfolio and its ability to contribute to future-state business capabilities around ecosystems and digital platforms; Leads the development of an architecture plan for the based on business requirements and the varying IT strategies for project-driven or product-driven delivery teams. Develops and applies standards and minimal viable architectures through the Federated Architecture governance model, which is informed by the business strategy and corporate governance.
  • Facilitate Innovation: Assesses disruptive forces impacting the organization and identifies technology-enabled innovation opportunities that enables business strategy; Scans for major disruptive technology and competitive threats from digital enterprises (both known competitor and emerging) to provides proactive solutions to overcome these challenges / challengers; Tracks and applies innovative technologies, anchoring them in the business and operating model to assess their potential, and use agile and lean approaches to evolve and manage innovation, including running technology experiments to explore create new products, services, and platform features.
  • Build and Maintain Relationships: Provide consultative advice to executive business leaders who seek recommendations to make investment decisions related to their business and operating model where technology is an enabler; Facilitates interaction with senior business leaders, product managers and product owners in a business-driven conversation over the risks and implications of the product decision to the line of business, business unit and greater enterprise.

What we’re looking for:
Experience
  • 10+ years of progressively senior engineering management experience
    with scale outcomes
  • Demonstrated thought leadership in technical vision
  • Proven inspiring leadership of innovative, agile teams
  • Deep understanding of the value of data, bringing it to life, and
    leveraging modern tools, platforms, AI, and cloud to deliver the best
    experience
  • Track record of working successfully on cross-functional teams and a
    strong financial acumen for managing project funding
  • Demonstrated success working effectively in a large organization plus very
    strong entrepreneurial or ‘intrapreneurial’ career evidence
  • Ability to identify key drivers, core assumptions, and significant trends
    across a complex, competitive landscape
  • Manage complex array of external technology vendors/partners
  • External perspective to build partnerships and drive digital transformation
    and develop capabilities from the outside/in to support growth strategy
  • Possesses excellent analytical and problem-solving skills along with highly
    developed communication and presentation skills with the ability to
    convey complex information understandably to a wide variety of executive
    and non-executive audiences
  • Able to drive change through influence and persuasion, navigate large,
    complex organizations, and work collaboratively work across various
    functions and disciplines up and down an organization, has highly effective
    coaching and influence capabilities.
  • Exceptional at cultivating relationships and collaborating with peers and
    colleagues across multiple lines of business and platforms, able to unlock
    potential in teams and build, develop, and foster talent.
  • Demonstrated experience and expertise in architecture domains (Cloud, Data, Distributed Applications, Mobile and API)
