Position Summary:
The Financial Analyst performs at a professional level supports the Finance Director, Vice President, Senior Staff and Officers on financial planning, analysis, and other financial functions to carry out UHW’s missions. The analyst provides complex financial analysis and reporting on UHW transactions and of related entities. The analyst is responsible for analyzing, reviewing, and providing public or confidential reports of the financial transactions and operations in the financial systems for SEIU-UHW.
The analyst collaborates with Executive Board, Executive Office, Research, Communications, Legal, Finance, Membership, and Information Systems teams to develop data models and analytic output to support our union mission. The analyst is responsible for making our financial data accurate, accessible, and useful in business decision making at any level. The Analyst is an integral part of the finance team and will work closely with the Finance Director and Vice President in coordinating reporting to outside entities and internal stakeholders.
Main Responsibility:
- Examine confidential financial records and prepare comprehensive reports, including compiling data from outside sources and internal sources, mostly from various departments within the organization, which includes creating reports for upper management, officers, and board members in a comprehensible manner
- Conduct ongoing detailed review and analysis of confidential revenue, payroll, and operating expenses
- Ability to effectively analyze and communicate complex information across broad functional and organizational lines including officer of the union.
- Create and compile reports of confidential or private information for outside regulators (DOL, IRS, State, etc.), on an as-needed or urgent basis
- Support accounting staff to use financial software as the go-to person
- Support accounting system maintenance and new project implementation, coordinate with IT or Information Services departments staff on complicated technical matters
- Deliver findings to management and providing inputs on financial matters
- Provide analytics on the data (reports, trends, comparisons, charts, etc.) that support the decision-making process to ensure adequate internal controls
- Provide research and analysis on other projects / confidential, as requested by the Vice President, Chief of Staff, Finance Director or, Finance Assistant Director
- Support Finance Assistant Director and Director as needed in the area of external confidential accounting, banking, insurance, and payroll issues and actively participate in the annual audit
- Stay current and knowledgeable on accounting standards, guidelines. and applicable regulations
- Will work on special projects as assigned
- Occasional overnight travel may be required for training and/or work-related operational needs
Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities):
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance preferred
- 8+ years of experience in financial analysis and high volume of data analytics
- Experience in statistical analysis and capability of managing and querying databases and data warehouses, and strong research ability on financial matters
- Familiarity with programming for data analysis, e.g., Python, SQL, etc.
- This position focuses on data analysis. Programming skills and the ability to create applications / queries that can help analyze financial data are particularly useful
- Strong with Excel and experienced with Data visualization- Tableau, PowerBI, Spotfire, Adaptive, etc
- Experience in integrated ERP systems (Dynamics or 365 Dynamics, NetSuite, Sage, Oracle, Epicor, etc.) and reporting tools
- Demonstrated experience using computer software such as report writer, MS Office Suite software, including strong Microsoft Excel, Access, and Macro skills to develop and maintain financial reports and statistical dataExcellent punctuality and attendance
- Ability to multi-task, work under deadlines, accommodate last minute changes in priorities and work in a challenging fast paced environment
- Ability to work independently and take initiative, exercise good judgement to solve related problems and follow task through completion
- The position is to compile data, and should be able to put the information into a comprehensible format that less technical employees can understand
- Demonstrates effective verbal and written communication skills
- Self-motivated, driven by a desire to continuously improve performance and processes
- Familiarity with a multi-office, organizational environment; non-profit experience is preferred
- Strong mathematical, analytical, and technical skills; highly organized, detail and customer service oriented
- Ability to interact professionally with culturally and linguistically diverse staff and members
- Understanding and commitment to the mission of SEIU-UHW West
Physical Demands:
- Ability to sit at a computer for extended periods
- Work long and irregular hours including nights and weekends
- Able to lift up to ten pounds
- Able to bend and stoop
- Occasionally lift and/or move boxes with documents weighing up to 20 pounds
