The Team Rubicon SkillBridge Program is an opportunity for transitioning service members to gain valuable civilian work experience through an individual apprenticeship during their last 6 months of service, for up to 180 days. The Team Rubicon Program is open to all ranks and experience levels. SkillBridge participants are not eligible for compensation from Team Rubicon, as they continue to receive military compensation and benefits as active-duty service members.
Responsibilities for this position are:
Team Rubicon has developed the Team Rubicon – Military Apprentice Rebuild Program (DoD SkillBridge) utilizing the DoDI guidance for SkillBridge. During this program the service member will be on-site at his or her host company performing an individual apprenticeship in an entry to mid-level career type role. The service member will be on the job training supporting a work schedule equivalent to 40hrs per week. Outlined below are the Goals, Objectives, and Outcomes for the program.
Goals – Provide transitioning service members fellowship-style job skills training during the last portion(s) of their military commitment. This program is specifically designed to offer transitioning service members opportunities that result in the potential to transition to a full-time opportunity as the conclusion of the training. SkillBridge applicants will serve as a pipeline for high-speed, motivated military candidates into Team Rubicon
Objectives - Service Members who complete the apprentice will be highly-trained, capable, future employees that align to the specific needs of the organization and are prepared to meet the Team Rubicon mission, starting Day 1. This program provides a comprehensive apprenticeship experience including professional development, networking with leadership, and training specifically focused on Team Rubicon leadership and cultural principles, company history, customer/stakeholder engagement, product and service overview, and core job responsibilities.

DoD SkillBridge Eligibility:
- Has served at least 180 days on active duty
- Is within 12 months of separation or retirement
- Will receive an honorable discharge
- Has taken any service TAPS/TGPS
- Has attended or participated in an ethics brief within the last 12 months
- Received Unit Commander (first O-4/Field Grade commander in chain of command) written authorization and approval
Team Rubicon (TR) is seeking a Construction Apprentice Coordinator to join our hardworking, long term recovery Rebuild team. The right person is motivated, enthusiastic and has a desire to learn all phases of construction.
In this role, you will support and learn from a carpenter (or group of carpenters) in conducting their worksite tasks. As part of their professional development the Construction Apprentice will spend time watching, listening to, and assisting licensed carpenters to gain proficiency in this skilled trade. The Construction Apprentice will also perform additional general construction tasks as instructed by the Foreman, including rough carpentry, sheathing, siding, fascia and soffit installations, drywall installation and finish, flooring, cabinet installation and finish carpentry among others.

This position reports to the Rebuild Construction Foreman and is based out of Houston, TX. Only the most awesome candidates should apply, period.
Duties:
- Support and learn from skilled, on-site carpenters and foremen in conducting their worksite tasks
- Learn and develop trade skills by performing all general construction tasks, including rough carpentry, sheathing, siding, fascia and soffit installations, drywall installation tape, float and sanding of drywall, flooring installation, cabinet installation and finish carpentry and all other tasks outlined in the scope of work and change orders for each house
- Assist with work preparation and clean up, to include but not limited to, sweeping up construction areas, laying out tools, and maintaining the general cleanliness of the job site
- Develop and demonstrate basic competency in the general skills and processes, working both independently or with a team to contribute to the organization and serve its clients
- Attend training classes and sessions, as required
- Learn, develop, and execute mastery of the organization's processes and procedures
- Learn and develop skills to perform final punch list and warranty tasks as needed
- Proactively ensure a positive experience for volunteers engaging in home rebuilds
- Provide supervision and training of volunteers as needed
- Take on any task identified – no task is too big or too small – if something needs to be done, do it
Additional requirements Experience and Background:
- Experience working in volunteer organizations a plus
- First Aid and CPR Certification and OSHA-10. If you don't have current certification, you will have three (3) months to obtain this at Team Rubicon's cost.
- Valid driver's license with an excellent record (record to be verified with our insurance carrier)
- Detail- oriented
- Excellent written and verbal communication
- Proficiency in basic computer skills (MS Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Good knowledge of safe lifting and carrying; good safety consciousness
Job Type:
- Full-time, hourly, non-exempt (after completion of internship)
Special Requirements:
- This role will be based in Houston, TX or in an immediately surrounding community
- This role will require frequent travel throughout the affected area
- This role may require travel and deployment to affected areas
- This role will require some evening and weekend work
Physical Demands:
- Performance of the required duties will require physical ability to climb permanent and temporary stairs, ability to climb ladders and negotiate work areas under construction. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Performing this job requires use of hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls, sit, talk and hear, stand, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.

Work Environment:
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works on-site at the construction work site where the employee is exposed to moving mechanical parts, high precarious places, fumes or airborne particles, outside weather conditions and risk of electrical shock. The noise in these work environments is usually moderate to very loud.
