Coordinator, Makerspace - South Campus
- Develop and maintain safety procedures and product knowledge regarding electric and hand tools, equipment, material and software for specific MakerSpace projects;
- Coordinate and secure tools, equipment, material, and software
- Assist faculty and students in using tools, equipment, materials, and software in the Makerspace
- Manage the front desk for administration of the MakerSpace
- Provide training to students, faculty and staff as needed in the safe use of equipment and machinery. Provide troubleshooting, when necessary, research additions and replacements as appropriate, and coordinate implementation with faculty, staff, and IT.
- Partner with internal stakeholders to identify development and interdisciplinary opportunities
- Establish tracking mechanisms to log requests, monitor progress, track problem resolution, and identify patterns of failure. Work with vendors to research bug fixes and implement solutions.
- Attend and look for value in all trainings and conferences
- Complete special prototyping projects as assigned
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Provide supervision of Makerspace student workers
- Manage Hazard Communications requirements; SDS sheets, proper labeling of hazards, personal protective equipment, and related.
- Manage all purchases, expenses, recordkeeping, inventory, etc. in partnership with Division Budget Coordinator(s).

- Ability to exercise excellent judgment.
- Effective ability to use and learn computers, technology, software, and applications at level of sophistication required for the duties of the position, including, without limitation, Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), the internet, and computerized maintenance management systems, and creative software suites.
- Knowledge of or ability to learn laboratory safety practices and standard operating procedures.
- Knowledge of electronics and mechanical technology such as 3D printers, robotics, coding, sewing machines, craft supplies, and other similar technology. In absence of proficiency in any device or area, ability to learn and understand the devices is required.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision
- Strong organizational skills.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to consistently handle and follow through with multiple projects and assignments and meet deadlines
- Associate degree or higher
Preferred Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Architecture, Design, Studio Arts, or a related field with studio and fabrication lab coursework.
Required Experience:
- 3 years related or direct industry experience in using and working with equipment found in the MakerSpace (3D printers, CNC machines, laser cutter/engraver, welding machines, electronics, vinyl and fabric sewing machines, metal-working and woodworking power and hand tools, electronic test bench equipment, and/or use of CAD or other design software).
Preferred Experience:
- 3 years’ experience supervising a makerspace or similar creative design and innovation space.
Note: The duties of this position require a physical presence at the assigned on-site work location during unrestricted operations with very limited or no opportunity for remote work arrangements.
Salary Grade: 18
