COST ACCOUNTANT WITH CPA - MUST HAVE 5 TO 8 YEARS OR MORE OF RESIDENTIAL OR COMMERCIAL CONSTRUCTION EXPERIENCE - EXCELENT SALARY, BONUS AND COMPREHENSIVE BENEFITS

PeopleFind Inc has been appointed by a well-established GTA residential developer of low, mid, and high-rise projects to find a Cost Accountant / Project Accountant with residential or commercial construction experience.

The Company is experiencing a high level of growth and as a result is seeking a savvy Cost Accountant or Project Accountant who has experience within the construction industry who can work independently and as part of a team.

This position reports directly to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO).

The Cost Accountant or Project Accountant will play a key role providing reliable, timely support and reports for pre-development and construction.

LOCATION:
This position is on-site at the Company’s office in North Toronto. Access to the office is easy by car if you reside in the following areas: North York, Etobicoke, City of Toronto north of Eglinton, Scarborough west of the Scarborough Town Centre, Markham west of 9th Line, Vaughan, Richmond Hill, Aurora, Newmarket, Caledon, and Mississauga from Hurontario to the 401and over to Brampton.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Overall responsible for the primary financial oversight, maintaining, and providing accurate job costing reports to ensure integrity of multiple development projects.

  • Monitor progress of project and identify commercial opportunities/financial exposure as it affects the company.
  • Prepare and maintain development/construction budgets, forecast, and cost implications.
  • Maintain P.O. system and manage contract terms and payments
  • Accurately maintain job costing accounts.
  • Understand project commercial terms & conditions and ensure that the project is in compliance with all the terms and conditions of the contract.
  • Prepare monthly reports for lenders and project consultants.
  • Verify and approve statement of adjustments.
  • Provide financial analysis and monthly reports of projects to the executive team, with a goal to seek improvements and compliance with project goals.
  • Set up and maintain project budgets, change orders, and estimate in the accounting system, as well as develop and implement internal control and maintain procedures.
  • Perform special project assignments requested.
  • Monitor and manage the invoice payables of projects, while reconciling with the contracts to ensure accurate, consistent procedure and payment.
  • Ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Standards (IFRS and ASPE), internal audit and client accounting services and internal review standards.
KEY REQUIRMENTS:
  • CPA (or CA) designation is required. CMA is a strong advantage.
  • Minimum of 5-8 years of accounting experience in residential or condo project or commercial construction accounting experience.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Advanced accounting and analytical skills.
  • Team player who is flexible, great at multitasking, and meeting targets.
  • Ability to multi-task, adapt to and operate in a fast-paced, changing environment.
  • Ability to anticipate and respond to the unpredictable.
  • Operate with a sense of urgency, quickly responding to Stakeholders.
  • Detail oriented with strong analytical skills.
  • Able to work well independently with an ability to work collaboratively with others
  • Able to maintain confidentiality, utilize judgment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills which facilitates effective collaboration and client service.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and other spreadsheet applications required.
  • Experience with real estate accounting software a plus (Jonas Premier, NEWSTAR, YARDI).
  • System conversion experience is a plus.
COMPENSATION:
Compensation is commensurate with experience. Salary is very competitive. Base salary will likely run into six figures, plus there is an incentive bonus and comprehensive benefits.
