The Metro Nashville Police Department (MNPD) is a 24/7/365 operation. Civilian Crime Lab employees are responsible for the general welfare of the citizens of Nashville and Davidson County. As the Director you will be responsible for ensuring optimum communications both within Metro and between Metro and the public. - Oversee all aspects of the Crime Laboratory, including scientific operations; human resource and budget related operations; fiscal and statistical reports; development, organization, implementation, and direction of all Crime Laboratory efforts related to quality assurance, quality control, and accreditation; security policy; health and safety policy.
- Supervise the work of others.
- Formulate short and long-term goals of the Crime Laboratory.
- Communicate with external and internal public and private customers in the best interest of the Crime Laboratory.
- Testify in court as required.
- Communicate with members of the judicial system as required.
- Work to ensure the workplace is a dynamic, safe environment to conduct business.
- Represent the department in local, state, and national professional organizations.
- Work on special projects, prepare reports, and present information as assigned.
- Perform other duties as assigned for the good of the department.
Bachelor's Degree in Natural Science, Criminalistics, or a closely related field and ten (10) years of Forensic Science experience in a scientific laboratory including three (3) years of management experience.

Valid driver license may be required in some positions.
Candidates with accreditations earned in a foreign institute are encouraged to apply.
Note: Per Metro Ordinance No. SO94-1078. All employees of the Metropolitan Government shall be residents of the State of Tennessee or become residents of the state within six (6) months of employment as a prerequisite to employment with the Metropolitan Government.
- Knowledge of budgeting, personnel, financial and/or security practices and procedures
- Knowledge of applicable state statutes and ability to apply directives of various criminal justice services at local, state, and federal levels
- Knowledge of forensic laboratory accreditation standards
- Ability to deliver quality and timely services through provision of appropriate resources

Metro offers a generous core benefit package to eligible employees who are regularly and consistently working 20 or more hours per week. Insurance and benefit coverage is effective the first of the month after the employee has worked 30 days.
