The total salary range for Network Technician I is $31.88-$38.84 hourly.
The total salary range for Network Technician II is $37.50-$45.57 hourly.
The total salary range for Network Technician III is $41.54-$50.52 hourly.
These ranges include an approximate five percent (5%) ongoing non-pensionable pay. Actual pay shall be determined by the candidate’s qualifications and experience.
Per the City’s COVID-19 Mandatory Vaccination Policy, the City requires all new hires to provide proof of vaccination as a condition of employment absent an approved medical or religious exemption. “Fully vaccinated” means the employee has received two doses of Pfizer, Moderna or Novavax or a single dose of Johnson & Johnson.

About the Position
The Information Technology Department is seeking a Desktop Support technician to support the Environmental Services Department. As a Desktop Support technician, you will also need to have excellent customer service skills, be able to work well with both technical and non-technical staff and must be able to work in a dynamic environment with a mixture of operational tasks and project assignments. This Network Technician I/II/III performs a variety of end-user support duties, including but not limited to:
- Troubleshoots computer and mobile endpoints, printer configuration and network connectivity issues
- Identifies, diagnoses, and resolves or escalates issues to appropriate technical teams as necessary
- Installs software, upgrades, and supports applications, and ensures security configurations are applied
- Configures computer and mobile endpoints operating systems
- Makes computers accessible to the network by resolving routine computer connectivity problems
- Creates new user accounts or mailboxes and resolves problems with existing accounts
- Provides guidance and troubleshooting related to Office 365 applications
- Responds to and resolves helpdesk tickets in a timely and courteous manner
- Provides first contact support of incoming support requests via telephone, web portal, email, and walk-up to ensure timely and effective resolution of end user issues.
- Troubleshoots and installs Windows 10, Office 365 suite, enterprise client applications, mapping network drive and printers.
- Performs basic networking tasks, such as network patching, replacing equipment, and triaging network connectivity.
- Assembles, troubleshoots, deploys, and maintains hardware and software for enterprise PCs, printers, mobile devices, and peripherals.

Job Expertise – The ideal candidate must demonstrate knowledge of and experience with applicable professional/technical principles and practices. Including a combination of the following:
- Knowledge of Microsoft Windows Active Directory users and computer management, security groups, and/or Group Policies.
- Knowledge of Windows networking such as TCP/IP, DHCP, DNS, subnets, gateways, WIFI, etc.
- Knowledge of creating, deploying, and troubleshooting desktop operating systems (OS) or image issues and applying Windows Security patches by using System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM).
Communication Skills – Effectively conveys information and expresses thoughts and facts clearly, orally and in writing; demonstrates effective use of listening skills; displays openness to other people's ideas and thoughts.
Computer Skills - Experienced with common business computer applications including but not limited to: MS Outlook, MS Word, MS PowerPoint, MS Access, and MS Excel.

Network Technician I
Education and Experience: Completion of high school or equivalent (General Education Development [GED] Test or California Proficiency Certificate) AND six (6) months of college-level coursework equivalent to 15 semester/22 quarter units or vocational training or technology technician apprenticeship, both covering computer related work such as computer and mobile endpoints repair, technical troubleshooting, application support, or other related duties.
Acceptable Substitution: Six (6) months of qualifying experience may substitute for the college-level education.
Required Licensing: Possession of a valid State of California driver’s license.
Network Technician II
Education and Experience: One (1) year of college-level coursework equivalent to 30 semester/45 quarter units or vocational training or technology technician apprenticeship AND one (1) year of experience, both covering computer-related work such as computer and mobile endpoints repair, technical troubleshooting, application support, or other related duties.
Licenses and Certifications:
- Possession of a valid State of California driver license.
- Possess a valid CompTIA A+ certificate, or equivalent professional, industry recognized certification acceptable to the City.
Acceptable Substitutions:
- One additional year of qualifying experience may substitute for the required one year of college-level coursework.
- One additional year of related experience can substitute the CompTIA A+ requirement.
Network Technician III
Education and Experience: Two (2) years of college-level coursework equivalent to 60 semester/90 quarter units or vocational training or technology technician apprenticeship AND two (2) years of experience, both covering computer-related work such as computer and mobile endpoints repair, technical troubleshooting, application support, or other related duties.
Licenses and Certifications:
- Possession of a valid State of California driver license.
- Possess a valid CompTIA A+ certificate, or equivalent professional, industry recognized certification acceptable to the City.
- Possess a valid Microsoft Specialist certification or an equivalent professional, industry recognized certification acceptable to the City within 6 months of hire.
Acceptable Substitutions:
- Additional qualifying experience may substitute for the college-level education requirement on a year-for- year basis.
- One additional year of related experience can substitute the CompTIA A+ requirement.
Selection Process
The selection process will consist of an evaluation of the applicant's training and experience based on the application and responses to the Job Specific Questions.
