GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF POSITION:

The Center for Gender Equity (CGE) is located on the Forest Grove campus, and serves students from all Pacific locations and programs. The Director for CGE works as part of a team of student engagement and outreach professionals. The CGE Director provides coordination and administration for an array of activities and programming that implement retention strategies, develop and grow programs, and ensure the success and support of the well-being of Pacific students, including marginalized student populations. The Director will design and implement strategic educational programs and experiences that integrate the multiple dimensions of gender identity and operate within a lens of intersectionality. The CGE and its Director support and advocate for survivors of gender-based violence (i.e., sexual assault, sexual harassment, interpersonal violence, stalking) and LGBTQIA+ students.


This is a full-time, in-person (not remote) position based on the Forest Grove Campus.


Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Oversight of the day-to-day operation of the Center for Gender Equity (CGE).
  • Administer the CGE budget, prepare cost estimates, budget recommendations, and make and monitor budget expenditures.
  • Provide leadership development workshops, mentorship, and collaborate closely with CGE student leaders to support, design, and implement evidence-based peer-education programs, events, and services that support student success and development.
  • Recruit, train, supervise, and mentor the CGE Peer Education Team and other student workers.
  • Guide and lead queer-affirming programming for LGBTQIA+ students with the purpose of developing a sense of belonging and building awareness, as well as advocating to decrease the negative impact of transphobia and homophobia on our campus.
  • Develop gender-related programming in collaboration with student interests and campus needs.
  • Develop and deliver interpersonal violence prevention and response programming to students and the community at large. Work in collaboration with the Orientation team to implement State required interpersonal violence prevention programming during orientation of all students on an annual basis.
  • Identify resource materials for CGE to be able to share with the broader university community
  • Deliver classroom instruction per program needs (e.g., developing and delivering the College of Arts & Sciences GSS 225 Peer Facilitator Course).
  • Work in partnership with the CGE Advisory Board.
  • May serves as the lead Confidential Advocate on campus, depending on qualifications and interests, which includes being responsible for implementing, recruiting, training, and leading the campus Confidential Advocacy Network.
  • Works in partnership with the university’s Title IX officer and committee to ensure that the university remains in compliance with federal and state regulations focused on gender-based discrimination and violence.
  • Train campus partners on appropriate and culturally responsive responses to gender-based violence and bystander behavior and intervention and provide ongoing support to those partners.
  • Knowledge or ability to develop knowledge of NCAA Guidelines, and to deliver NCAA required workshops on the prevention of interpersonal violence.
  • Participate in ongoing student affairs assessment activities.
  • Work in close collaboration with partners from other universities and community-based organizations such as SARC and DVRC.

SECONDARY FUNCTIONS:

  • Provide back-up and support to other members of the Student Affairs team as needed.
  • Support Student Affairs programming such as Orientation, Convocation, and Commencement.
  • Participate in the Student Affairs on-call rotation.
  • May serve on student affairs and university committees and task forces as appropriate.
  • Provide summary reporting and information as requested.
  • Contribute to strategic planning, training of staff, and professional development within Student Affairs.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:


Required:

  • At least five-years of related experience
  • Bachelor’s degree, in a related field
  • Experience working with marginalized communities and culturally responsive and affirmative programming

Preferred:

  • Master’s degree in related field (higher education, psychology, social work, public health, family health and services, gender and sexuality, etc.)
  • Experience working in a higher education setting.
  • Grant writing experience a plus

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to demonstrate a commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion.
  • Knowledge of student development theory and student services best practices preferred
  • Ability to be student-centered and approachable
  • Must be capable of maintaining ethical and legal standards of confidentiality and privacy
  • Possess an understanding of gender-based violence, particularly on college campuses, along with evidence-based prevention strategies.
  • Ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituents, including students, staff, faculty, and community members.
  • Ability to meet deadlines, handle multiple, complex, and abstract tasks, be detail-oriented, and work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills, including ability to make presentations and facilitate group discussions.
  • Ability to perform regular program evaluations, with input from student participants and external stakeholders and partners.
  • Understanding of appropriate intervention and advocacy approaches with survivors of sexual assault/abuse/relationship violence.
  • Flexibility and ability to work autonomously in program development and maintenance, and also to collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary teams.
  • Must be able to work occasional flexible hours, evenings/weekends as needed, to support programming.

SUPERVISOR RESPONSIBILITY:

  • Will recruit, train and supervise student employees (peer educators).

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Typical professional office environment. Flexible schedule with expectation to work some evenings and occasional weekends to deliver or support scheduled educational programming.
