Summary or Purpose
The Director of Maintenance and Operations (M&O) serves as the principal official responsible for
coordinating District services in the areas of maintenance and operations, capital improvements, housing
(procurement of units) and forming and implementing policies and procedures in the department.
The Director assures that assigned areas of responsibility are performed within the budget allocations; and
assures effective and efficient use of personnel, materials, facilities and time. The Director uses excellent
customer service skills to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees,
officials, and all members of the general public.

Qualification Requirements

• 5 years experience in an equivalent position preferred.
• 5 years of supervisory experience preferred.
• Three years of work experience with the public required.
• Three years of work experience with general office computer programs required.
• Strong written, verbal and interpersonal skills required.
• Valid Alaska Driver’s License required.
• Iñupiat speaking & cultural relevance preferred.
• Such other alternatives as the administration may find appropriate and acceptable.

• Coordinate and direct outside contractors for all departmental certifications, inspections, and

• Coordinate the development and implementation of departmental safety and staff training

• Coordinate and direct departmental supervisors and employees to ensure compliance with

• Direct and implement the Disaster Plan for all District facilities
• Coordinate implementation of the district-wide computerized maintenance management system
