EHS Leader (Safety and Health)
Position Summary:
In this role, you will play a key role in leading the site to a proactive interdependent safety culture, influencing the company’s safety culture plan, and most importantly improving the lives of our associates. You will report directly to the Sr. Manager of EHS.

Tasks and responsibilities of the position:

The EHS Leader (Safety and Health) is responsible for guiding the organization's improvement of safe practices, compliance and culture through understanding of Corporate and Site policies and Federal and State safety regulations. Lead safety initiatives in support of Momentive's and the site's EHS strategies including development and management of leading indicators, improved risk awareness and hazard recognition, and development of associates to achieve an interdependent safety culture.

Safety, Health and Medical Oversight: Assures compliance and improvement by implementing programs, conducting periodic audits, inspections, and answering questions of site leadership and employees as needed at all levels of the organization. Works with others to find solutions to problems and provides solutions as required. Communicates and develops key messages to complete safety education and information sharing. Provide subject matter expert support to locations in the Americas external to the Sistersville site as needed and to partner with and appropriately leverage Momentive's corporate EHS Center of Excellence. Oversee operations of the site contracted medical department to ensure efficient/effective operation.

Planning and Budgeting: The incumbent is responsible for planning and helping develop the site’s annual safety budget and related financial justifications.

Training, Coaching and Mentoring: Works closely with the Training and Operating Departments to assure regulatory training is completed as required. The successful candidate must be able to effectively deliver training and coach/mentor site employees on safety, health and cultural related topics.

Incident Investigations: Leads, participates, and supports UCR (Unsafe Condition Report) investigations, accident investigations, injury and illness investigations. Advises, counsels and suggests corrective actions and partners with employees to assure their prompt implementation.

Manage/participates in programs and audits: Leads and assists with OSHA, VPP, PSM, Homeland Security program administration and audits as necessary to demonstrate ongoing compliance. Assists with onsite visits from these and other agencies as needed. Willingness to be trained in PSM PHA software and to periodically lead PHA studies as needed.

Establish a credible safety presence at all organizational levels: Position is responsible for maintaining a credible presence for safety with all employees at the site for the purposes of keeping the right safety focus in front of employees.

Lead the site safety culture: Champions the establishment and reinforcement of the right safety values, beliefs, and attitudes within the workforce to develop an interdependent safety culture. Creates, partners and involves others in program development and educational efforts. Confers as necessary with various functional heads to further the interests of establishing the desired safety culture in their areas.

Mentors/coaches site safety teams to drive employee participation, hazard recognition, procedural compliance in order to attain safety related goals and to develop the culture of safety interdependence.

Management team member: Partners with site management to support other site operations and managers as part of an aligned partnership in all areas of site management.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS / WORK ENVIRONMENT
The physical demands and work environment characteristics described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, bend, stoop, climb, twist, turn, grasp and move about the facility. Walking, walking on irregular surfaces and balancing will be required. Hearing, sight to include depth perception and color vision and the ability to speak clearly will be required. Occasionally lifting and/or move up to 50 lbs. and the ability to comply with PPE requirements (ability to pass a fit-test and wear a respirator is required for certain positions/locations). The environment for this position is a Manufacturing setting, with exposure to outside weather conditions and loud noise. Candidates should be able to adapt to a traditional business environment. Additional Details:
Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree in Health and Safety, engineering or related technical field.

Minimum of six years manufacturing experience in a process safety management environment.
-
Minimum of six years of experience demonstrating leadership.
-
Certified Safety Professional (CSP)
-
Good working knowledge of OSHA regulations / requirements
-
Experience in leading and participating in safety Incident Investigations
-
Knowledge of chemical and Material Safety Data Sheet (SDS) systems management
-
Knowledge of chemical manufacturing maintenance systems and techniques, Microsoft Office Tools, and contemporary sound safety engineering and maintenance practices.

Knowledge of chemical process manufacturing plant safety practices from both an engineering and practical application of methods, tools and Standard Operating Procedures.

Knowledge of chemical and Material Safety Data Sheet (SDS) systems management.

Ability to lead and measure the performance effectiveness of day-to-day activities of a multifunctional organization.

Ability to lead and coach in a positive and constructive way. Can accept and deliver constructive feedback to help influence and align others.

Ability to develop and effectively deliver safety training

Strong leadership along with project management skills to develop and implement safety processes

Demonstrated computer skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office and knowledge of health & safety software programs

Must have high level of integrity, strong work ethic, good judgment and problem-solving skills

Must have a solid financial understanding of managing a budget

Strong track record of working with others
Preferred Qualifications:

Advanced degree in related field.

Knowledge of site manufacturing processes

Knowledge of Leader PHA software

Experience with safety process such as Safety Contact and SafeStart.

Experience working within a union manufacturing environment.
