Supporting the Vision, Values, Purpose and Commitments of Fraser Health including service delivery that is centered around patients/clients/residents and families.
The Epidemiologist provides expert consultation, advice, direction and support to Population & Public Health Programs and Services leadership regarding health assessment, disease surveillance, and planning. Ensures access and interpretation of community health status and information of local relevance for incorporation into the delivery of Population & Public Health planning, through linkages with Fraser Health Medical Health Officers, Ministry of Health, local communities, and other agencies.
Responsibilities:- Provides expert consultation, advice, support, and direction to Population & Public Health leadership. Ensures quality in the delivery of health assessment and disease surveillance, research, and evaluation activities.
- Utilizes various community health data to understand the distribution of health determinants and status for Fraser Health residents.
- Applies epidemiological methods to the prevention and control of disease and injury, in the planning, priority setting, policy development, evaluation of intervention, and assessment of community concerns.
- Assists the Communicable Disease Team in the management of public health situations and emergencies through appropriate surveillance and monitoring activities.
- Develops, implements, and evaluates surveillance systems to monitor specific public health events.
- Communicates information from health assessment and disease surveillance activities to internal and external stakeholders through presentations and reports.
- Leads teams and/or projects to increase or improve data assets related to monitoring the health of the population.
- Initiates and/or participates in research projects relevant to Population & Public Health programming and promotes the utilization of research findings.
- Participates in the development of standards for Population & Public Health, including policies and procedures regarding research, and health information resources.
- Ensures quality in the collection and interpretation of program specific data through consultation and support to Population & Public Health leadership.
- Participates in internal and external committees promoting effective utilization of health information in the planning and delivery of health programs, as required.
Qualifications: Education and Experience
Masters degree in Epidemiology or Public Health and a minimum of 2 years experience in the field of public health, as well as experience in the area of chronic disease, communicable disease and/or injury surveillance.
