Department Summary
The Office of DICE is responsible for coordinating, developing, enhancing, and implementing the university’s diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts while working closely with students, faculty, staff, institutional leaders and community leaders and organizations assuring that Oregon Tech programs and activities embrace and engender equitable and inclusive best practices.
The Office of DICE also serves as Oregon Tech’s Title IX office. In this capacity the office oversees all Title IX federal compliance, oversees all forms of equity grievance through Oregon Tech’s Process B, and works to stop, prevent and remedy all forms of discriminatory conduct in the OWL community.
Position Summary
The position of Equity Associate reports to Oregon Tech’s Executive Director of Diversity, Inclusion, and Cultural Engagement/Title IX Coordinator. Equity Associates are primarily responsible for conducting and/or overseeing discrimination, harassment (including sexual harassment covered by Title IX and Oregon Tech policy) investigations occurring on Oregon Tech properties or involving parties under Oregon Tech’s scope of authority. The Equity Associate assists in receiving, screening, and investigating allegations of discrimination based on protected-class status; sexual misconduct, sexual harassment, gender-related violence, including stalking and intimate partner violence; and allegations of retaliation related to such allegations.
Equity Associates conduct investigations which typically culminate in a detailed, unbiased written report outlining factual findings and a determination of whether material allegations have been substantiated by a preponderance of the information gathered. Informal complaints or requests for technical assistance are also often triaged or addressed by an Equity Associate, often collaborating with other departments such as the offices of Student Affairs, Academic Affairs, Athletics, and Human Resources when involving members of those departments.
Additional duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, assisting the Title IX Coordinator in reviewing related policies and procedures; drafting or reviewing template documents; reviewing and updating website content; planning and facilitating student and employee training and educational events; coordinate with the Office of Student Involvement and Belonging in planning awareness programs and campus communications; speaking with student organizations and clubs; coordinating with the Student Affairs on providing support measures to student complainants and respondents, and other DICE/Title IX office duties as needed.
Additional Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant area of specialization (Social work, Sociology, Psychology, criminology, law, etc.) and two (2) years or more of experience conducting investigations or resolving equity based complaints, or six (6) years of experience conducting investigations, or a Master’s degree or Juris Doctorate. Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis
- Ability to complete 40 hours of Title IX and/or EO/AA training within first 6 months of hire
- Excellent interpersonal, analytical, and oral/written communication skills
- Willing and able to accommodate occasional travel and work that may occur during weekend/evening hours
- Ability to effectively and respectfully function and communicate within the context of varying beliefs, behaviors, orientations, identities, and cultural backgrounds
- Knowledge of trauma-informed investigation techniques
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience conducting trauma-informed investigations relating to Title IX and/or sexual assault/sexual violence
- Experience conducting equity investigations
- Knowledge of applicable regulatory requirements, laws, and guidelines (e.g., Title IX, Title VII, FERPA, Campus Sexual Violence Act (SaVE Act), the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA), Clery Act, etc.)
- Ability to demonstrate effective conflict resolution/de-escalation skills and the ability to determine mutually acceptable solutions for difficult problems with competing interests
- Current Title IX Investigator or Coordinator certification
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $55,000.00 - $65,000.00 per year
