DESCRIPTION: Several fulltime and part-time permanent positions are available for individuals with commercial experience in operating and maintaining complex industrial equipment at Kent SeaTech’s 168 acre fish farming facility near the Salton Sea in southern California. Previous commercial experience with fish culture would be valuable, but hard-working candidates who have commercial experience in operating, repairing, and maintaining complex industrial equipment such as electrical pumps, diesel electric generators, motor controllers, and heavy equipment also will be considered, if they are willing to learn fish farming skills. Proven abilities to operate various types of industrial equipment in a commercial scale are critical. This position provides an excellent opportunity for the right experienced applicant to grow into a position of significant responsibility and a long-term career with a substantial and well-funded company.

DUTIES: The individual will be expected to maintain hatchery culture systems including water supplies, recirculation systems, temperature and light controls, filtration systems, and other associated fish culture equipment. The work will require considerable time spent outdoors in the warm Coachella Valley of California and will require significant physical exertion and stamina, as well as the ability to work in wet and slippery conditions.

REQUIREMENTS: A proven track record of at least three years of commercial experience in operating and maintaining industrial electric, hydraulic, or related systems is required. The individual will need to have good communication skills and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work easily with a variety of co-workers of varying levels of education. The individual will need to assist in caring for grow-out tanks, weekly fish harvesting, system construction, and other functions. The individual may eventually oversee other technicians and will need to have the ability to get along and interact easily with all employees at the farm. The ability to speak Spanish will be beneficial, as will experience in operating motors, trucks, and other heavy equipment. There may be occasions where the employee will be required to work long hours, evenings, weekends or holidays.

HOUSING: The Kent SeaTech fish farm is located about 20 minutes away from the town of Indio, where various forms of housing are available. We also have a series of large mobile homes on the production site, where no-cost accommodation may be provided if the employee agrees to be available to assist with nighttime emergencies and feed deliveries.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $50,000.00 - $70,000.00 per year
