Rakuten Inc. owns and operates the world's most rewarding shopping programs - Rakuten.com, Rakuten.ca, and Rakuten.com.
We are looking for a driven and passionate individual to join our Rakuten.ca engineering team to add new features, maintain and improve the Rakuten.ca user experience. The position will be working on web development for Rakuten Canada (Rakuten.ca) which is a consumer-focused, high traffic website. Work will include adding new features, working with cross functional teams, creating new pages, investigating and fixing existing problems, improving the code base and writing unit tests. You will also be responsible for supporting and creating new pages, adding applications for the existing web site infrastructure, api’s, as well as implementing new technologies in the front end as they become available on the back end platform. You will be working with teams across the globe utilizing a thriving Rakuten ecosystem.
Key Responsibilities:

Working on an exciting high traffic shopping portal with 4+ million users and 99.9% availability

Collaborate with senior architects and engineers to design and implement new functionality, upgrade core frameworks, investigate and fix issues

Focus on frontend (html5, css3/scss, javascript, jQuery and templating languages like JSP, tiles, apache velocity)

working knowledge of frontend frameworks like: Bootstrap, jQuery plugin development, design patterns and NodeJS & build automation tools like: Webpack, Gulp, Grunt.

Solid backend knowledge utilizing technologies such as java, j2ee, spring mvc.

Implement full stack features end to end utilizing a mix of backend and frontend architectures,
-
fix display issues on the site, investigate errors/bugs in code
-
Add test cases and suggest new methods for automation

Suggest new technologies, prototype and present them to the senior team

Ability to read and analyze logs from multiple sources including datadog, loggly, new relic, catchpoint then identifying the issue, debugging and fixing

Self starter who is able to work with PMs, designers, engineers and qa for the full feature lifecycle
Qualifications

Must have completed a minimum of 3 years of a bachelors degree in Computer Science

Must have proven experience in web development

Very good knowledge of frontend technologies like html, css, javascript/jquery, and templating languages like apache velocity or JSP, scss, asset build,

Familiar with responsive design, mobile optimized webpages, AJAX

Good knowledge of java, j2ee, mvc frameworks and spring mvc

Experience writing jUnit test cases or other testing framework
-
Able to work in a team, open to suggestions, quick learner
-
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, self-driven and adheres to timeliness.

Basic knowledge of databases SQL, Linux command line, JIRA and source control

Knowledge of or experience with Agile / SCRUM methodologies

AWS deployment and architecture knowledge a plus, k8tes, jenkins
