HIRING SALARY RANGE: $19.10- $22.92

POSITION SALARY RANGE: $19.10- $30.56


SUMMARY OF JOB DESCRIPTION:
Assists with health needs of students, including maintenance of health records, under the supervision of the School Nurse.

SUPERVISED BY: School Principal/School Nurse

ESSENTIAL JOB ELEMENTS:
1. Complete special/routine assignments independently and work within the confines of district and state guidelines and protocols.
2. Always use universal precautions and model for staff and students.
3. Assess students in emergency situations; determine appropriate protocols to activate and who should be contacted.
4. Follow accredited First Aid and CPR procedures and utilize appropriate skills to respond effectively in emergencies.
5. Function as primary care giver on the Emergency Response Team when present at scheduled school.
6. Anticipate the medical needs presented by special events and situations.
7. Remain flexible with the schedule and accept new assignments as needed.
8. Consult with the school nurse by phone regarding student's health status, particularly when unstable or questionable, and assist in carrying out the appropriate interventions according to the student's health plan (i.e. administering medication, contacting parent, or initiating a specific procedure).
9. Maintain effective working relationships with the nurse, staff and general public and create a positive rapport with parents and students.
10. Implement the Colorado Immunization Law and related district policies.
11. Maintain a record of clinic activities, admissions and withdrawals and cumulative health/immunization records for each student while working within the strict confines of confidentiality.
12. Compile Health Concerns list.
13. Initiate and assure completeness of accident/illness forms, including follow-up statement.
14. Assume the responsibility for keeping the clinic clean, attractive, orderly and adequately supplied.
15. Assure that prescribed and non-prescribed medications are dispersed according to appropriate protocol.
16. Assist with compilation of data for state, district and other reports.
17. Follow procedures, as assigned, on the Health Care Plan of students with special health needs, e.g. tube feedings, nebulizer treatments and catheterization.
18. Organize, schedule and maintain records of vision and hearing screenings.

19. Perform tasks that may involve exposure to blood/bodily fluids.
20. Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
1. High school diploma or equivalent.
2. Valid community First Aid and CPR card for adult, infant and children (or acquire within 6 months of hire).
3. Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
4. Clerical skills appropriate to duties of position.
5. Previous successful experiences with children.
6. Completion of Hepatitis B series of immunization (or acquire within six months of hire).
7. 6 months previous clerical experience or work with children.
8. Successful experience working with confidential information in an office setting.

9. Bilingual (Spanish/English) preferred.
