The Human Resources Manager (Labor Relations Manager) will administer and provide guidance, support, training and counsel to staff and managers in positive labor relations, compliance, policies & procedures, and other employment legal matters. Will work to find solutions that reduce risk, and ensure a fair, consistent approach to employee and labor relations practices. The responsibilities of this role are building collaborative inter and intra functional relationships to effectively manage, resolve and execute workplace investigations, consultations, mediations, and other employee and labor relations matters.


Role & Responsibility

  • Train and oversee the Labor Relations Team and assigned staff.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with operations, the workforce, stewards, and the committee.
  • Diffuse tense situations.
  • Ensure labor and employment laws are adhered to.
  • Review and advise on investigations.
  • Serve as a lead and provide direction on addressing and resolving grievances and other labor management/union issues.
  • Effectively manage labor relations including representing the company in union meetings, grievances, arbitrations and training managers and supervisors to ensure positive relations.
  • Actively review and stay current on all applicable rules and regulations related to employment law.
  • Assist management on labor matters, including interpreting the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
  • Ensure organizational compliance with collective bargaining agreements by interpreting and implementing articles of agreement.
  • Advise managers and supervisors on best employee relations practices.
  • Provide labor relations support throughout the collective bargaining negotiation process, including drafting and reviewing articles of agreements, in collaboration with legal counsel and leadership.
  • Collect and analyze data in audits and other assessments to identify trends, recommend direction, and provide guidance needed to adjust unfavorable trends while meeting the needs of the organization.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Job Requirement

  • Location: Gwinner, Bismarck or West Fargo
  • Education Required: Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration or related field. Equivalent experience may be considered.
  • General HR Manager Experience Required: 1-3 years
  • Travel Required: 40-75% depending on specific site support needed. Competitive relocation package.
  • 3 years of labor relations experience in a union plant environment and an understanding of negotiation techniques preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of labor and employment laws. Ability to comprehend, interpret, and apply applicable laws and policies.
  • Ability to develop and execute a proactive employee and labor relations strategy focused on building, leading change, and reinforcing a positive work environment.
  • Must possess great listening skills and general business acumen.
  • Must have the ability to remain tactful, calm, persuasive and build sustainable relationships with employees and union.
  • Ability to independently conduct a thorough and comprehensive investigation and strong mediation and conflict resolution skills.
  • Desire to assist in upgrading HR functions and processes.
  • PHR/SPHR Certificate preferred.
