Summary: Installs, administers, maintains, modifies, and supports the organization’s computing, information, and telecommunication infrastructures. Responds to service requests. Provides technical assistance, customer support, and training to system users. Communicates scheduled and unscheduled outages and changes to the computing environment to all users and affected parties.


Responsibilities for System Administrator include the following. Other duties may be assigned

  • Responsible for the maintenance, configuration, and reliable operation of computer systems, network servers, and virtualization
  • Ensures security and privacy of networks and computer systems
  • Orders, receives, inventories, configures, upgrades and installs computer hardware, software, operating systems, virtual servers, printers and other peripherals
  • Troubleshoot hardware and software errors by running diagnostics, documenting problems and resolutions, prioritizing problems, and assessing impact of issues
  • Provide documentation and technical specifications to IT staff for planning and implementing new or upgrades of IT infrastructure
  • Perform regular backup operations and implement appropriate processes for data protection, disaster recovery, and failover procedures
  • Lead desktop and helpdesk support efforts, making sure all desktop applications, workstations, and related equipment problems are resolved in a timely manner with limited disruptions
  • Responsible for capacity, storage planning, and database performance
  • Travels to offsite locations within 15-mile radius
  • Participates in the IS on-call rotation

Qualifications: Reports To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education: Associates Degree in Computer Science or related field required. Minimum two year’s desktop or system administration experience required.

Computer/Server Skills: Extensive knowledge of desktop computers, laptops, printers, and computer peripherals. Knowledge of Microsoft Windows, Windows Server, Windows Domain Environment (AD, DNS, DHCP, SCCM, Group Policy). Troubleshooting experience with PDs, Printers and other peripherals also required. Experience with VMware, SANs, and data backup/storage software and processes required.

Network Skills: Knowledge and experience in networking design and concepts, TCP/IP, switches, routers, firewalls, wireless access points, SSIDs, and VLANs preferred. Experience with network and computer security practices preferred as well.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Valid Ohio driver’s license required

Age Specific Competencies: Knowledge and application of growth and development principles; utilization of effective communication strategies; implementation of specific technical factors.
