This is a temporary position expected to last up to six months.

The City of Littleton is looking for a temporary Labor Worker to assist our Facilities team with various projects including moving furniture, painting, patching, small repairs, and other general maintenance and janitorial duties. The ideal candidate has experience with general labor, painting, and general carpentry projects.

Starting pay at or near $19.52 per hour

Work Schedule:
This position will be expected to work 40 hours per week, 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday.

This full-time temporary position is non-exempt per FLSA and is eligible for overtime compensation.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assists with the set-up and teardown of furnishings and fixtures for community meetings and special events.
  • Assembles and disassembles furniture, equipment, and shelving.
  • Painting projects including patching, sanding and prep work.
  • Assists with building construction and remodeling projects. Projects may include, but are not limited to, construction or remodeling of walls, doors, ceilings, counters, closets, shelves, and woodworking.
  • Performs janitorial tasks, as required, to maintain the cleanliness of buildings. Tasks may include, but are not limited to, vacuuming carpets and mopping floors; emptying wastebaskets; dusting surfaces; cleaning restroom sinks, toilets, floors, walls and fixtures.
  • Performs other similar assignments and projects as required.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent; and
  • A minimum of one (1) year of experience in painting, general carpentry, or related field; or
  • An equivalent combination of education, training, and work experience that produces the knowledge, skill, and abilities to successfully perform the essential duties/responsibilities of the position.
  • Must have a valid driver's license.
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment criminal background check, motor vehicle records check, drug screen and physical.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Fundamental knowledge of and the ability to work with standard construction materials such as wood, insulation, paints/coatings, drywall etc.
  • Familiarity with the use and safe operation of power tools, both electric and pneumatic (saws, drills, screw guns, nail guns, sanders, grinders, shears, etc.).
  • Fundamental ability to use applicable mathematics and measuring devices.
  • Familiarity with common hand tools used in the industry.
  • Has relevant safety training to include PPE, electricity, tools, chemicals, material handling, and hazardous materials.
  • Ability to paint and apply other coatings efficiently and appropriately.
  • Ability to disassemble/assemble and move furniture.
  • Understands and assists with a wide range of custodial operations when required.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES

  • Physical requirements include the performance of heavy work that include but are not limited to: lifting, carrying, pushing or pulling objects weighing up to 150 pounds with or without assistance.
  • Long periods of sitting, standing or walking may be required. Work is primarily performed indoors in an office, mechanical and equipment areas of city buildings. Outdoor work is conducted in mechanical and equipment areas including rooftops of city buildings. This work includes exposure to extreme temperature and weather changes; HVAC and mechanical equipment vibration and noise estimated at up to 90 decibels of unprotected exposure for an average of up to 30 minutes per day (the use of hearing protection devices to reduce noise exposure to acceptable OSHA levels is mandatory); exposure to fumes, odors, dusts, mists and gases from the operation of equipment and the atmosphere (the use of protective eyewear while operating power and hand tools or performing work involving potential eye injury hazards is mandatory); exposure to mechanical and electrical hazards; high exposed work sites, burns and radiant energy; exposure to toxic and caustic chemicals.

MATERIAL AND EQUIPMENT DIRECTLY USED

A variety of hand and power tools and mechanical equipment, including, but not limited to, hand and power saws; electric drills, sanders, planers; screwdrivers, hammers, wrenches and pliers; electronic and mechanical testing devices; tape measures; grinder, step and extension ladders, scaffolds; bucket truck, assigned utility truck with two-way radio; telephone, basic power tools, welder, and cutting torches.
