Manager Budget and Financial Planning


Kootenai Health is in search for a Healthcare Budget and Financial Planning Manager to join our dynamic team!

Responsible for leading activities and supporting the leadership team with preparation, monitoring and management of operating and capital budgets, long range financial planning, productivity management and cost accounting. Performs and manages financial and operational analysis, budgeting, forecasting, cost/profit improvement initiatives, revenue projections and other key performance indicators. Responsible for volume and financial projections and developing multivariate financial models on an ad hoc basis. Coordinates with the Chief Administrative and Financial Officer and Controller on actual performance versus budget/forecast management reporting and variance analysis. Reports directly to the Controller for financial review and optimization of duties while maintaining a matrixed supporting structure with the Executive Director of Strategic Planning & Business Development.

Responsibilities:

  • Initiates, directs and assists in preparation, monitoring and management of operating and capital budgets, long range financial planning, productivity management and cost accounting
  • Makes recommendations to assist in the management and processing of data/information to enhance knowledge and to support the finance leadership team
  • Recommends changes that will be beneficial to improving financial outcomes
  • Performs complex financial analysis and projections and assists directors and senior management in strategic financial planning and decision making related to the budget
  • Analyzes financial and operational data, and develops financial models used to guide business decisions
  • Develops guidelines for improvements in the budget development and financial planning processes
  • Assists in managing scorecard capabilities and provides consultative financial services to leadership
  • Analyzes and provides recommendations on complex issues relating to all financial matters
  • Responsible for payer mix implications, contractual adjustments, and application of bad debt factors to aged patient accounts receivable
  • Collaborates to acquire and analyze data to proactively develop data driven recommendations for best practices and resource utilization
  • Serves in a leadership role to help eliminate redundancy, improve workflow, reduce variation, eliminate bottlenecks, increase throughput
  • Manages and evaluates assigned staff, including hiring, training and providing appropriate feedback on performance

Requirements and Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business or related field required
  • Five years’ of finance/accounting experience required
  • Healthcare Finance experience A MUST
  • Three years’ healthcare finance experience required
  • Experience using budget and financial planning software required
  • MBA, CPA or other finance/accounting credential preferred
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
