The Role:Moderna is seeking a highly driven individual for a Manufacturing Associate II position within High Throughput Operations (HTOps), at the Moderna manufacturing site in Norwood, MA. The HTOps team is responsible for high throughput production of mRNA and LNP in support of Moderna’s research portfolio.
This position is Monday-Friday 7am-3pm shift. The individual hired into this role will independently execute DNA, RNA, and/or LNP unit operations following standard operating procedures. Prior lab experience and dedication to manufacturing using good lab practices sets this operator apart from a Manufacturing Associate I. In addition to manufacturing, the Manufacturing Associate II, will troubleshoot common problems, and escalate as needed for issues experienced outside their scope while manufacturing. They are also expected to have a strong understanding of the process steps completed daily and derive process improvements from that understanding and general lab experience. The Manufacturing Associate II is expected to contribute to the company’s agility through cross-training in the multiple unit operations.
It is expected that the Manufacturing Associate II has a team mentality and respects the common work areas. They help to maintain the cleanliness, and 5S initiatives put into place in the lab common areas as well as unit assigned areas. The candidate must value the safety of the workspace and those that work around them and be an active participant in the department’s safety culture.
A distinguishing attribute of the Manufacturing Associate II is their leadership qualities. Their experience in the lab, allows for repeated successful production/manufacturing of product. Efficient pacing of the day demonstrates the time management skills necessary to pursue investigational projects and/or handle additional responsibilities such as leading process improvement initiative. These projects/responsibilities will require the Manufacturing Associate II to work with outside groups (IR/IX, PD, AE etc), and at some point, communicate to the team; either the outcome of a project, or updates representing the team in a group setting.
The successful candidate must demonstrate the ability to quickly master new processes and the drive to be part of a dynamic, fast paced, and highly motivated team.
Here’s What You’ll Do:
Lead by example by thoroughly completing manufacturing processes.
Contribute during team meetings
Take on High Throughput Operations site representation responsibility, and/or lead optimization projects
Follow written procedures to manufacture DNA/RNA/LNP.
Efficiently complete the day-to-day manufacturing processes
Demonstrate a strong understanding of the science that drives the process
Maintain a clean and safe lab space; properly label buffer bottles, discard of waste in appropriate waste streams, restock workstations, cleans up after oneself.
Communicate with management as needed when encountering issues during manufacturing.
Utilize process knowledge to identify manufacturing issues that could be optimized and/or improved.
Adhere to laboratory gowning procedures.
Adhere to documented waste handling procedures to respect environmental regulations
Here’s What You’ll Bring to the Table:
Requires BA/BS in a relevant science or engineering discipline, and 2+ years experience in a biotechnology manufacturing or laboratory environment
High motivation, a drive to continue learning, self-starting mentality that understands how their efforts impact the department’s ability to meet key objectives.
Experience operating instrumentation and integrated systems
Ability to manage multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced environment
Requires hands-on lab work
