Job: NMR Spectroscopy Researcher Specialist

Description:
Braskem is searching for a creative and highly skilled Research Scientist with deep knowledge and hands on experience in NMR spectroscopy to join the Advanced Analytics group at Innovation & Technology Center in Pittsburgh, PA. The researcher will play an important role with the team responsible for starting up a new NMR unit that supports all Braskem's units globally, as well as joining key projects to develop more sustainable materials.
Responsibilities and Attributions:
- Develop, implement and perform sophisticated NMR spectroscopy experiments (in solution and/or solid state) applied to polymers, catalysts and other chemicals, supporting R&D projects and business needs.
- Effectively work within a project team of experts from various disciplines to successfully meeting project milestones and timelines
- Implement automated/high-throughput laboratory workflows, as well as digital/data analysis tools to optimize experiments and speed up results.
- Ensure safety, quality and knowledge management in laboratory operations, continuously seeking for improvements and overseeing the necessary calibrations, supplies and maintenance.
- Communicate results and observations in varied formats including patent applications, technical reports and seminars, case studies, customer presentations, management team meetings, etc.
- Enable the professional growth of the team by mentoring and supervising junior scientists
Requirements and Qualifications:
- PhD degree in Chemistry or other science-related courses
- 3+ years of hands-on experience in analytical chemistry (polymer and catalyst characterization is preferred) with focus in NMR spectroscopy
- MSDS awareness, chemical storage, waste disposal and familiarity with safe laboratory operating principles.
- Troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Advanced computer skills to navigate instruments computer systems and data processing. Knowledge in modern programming languages (e.g. Python) is preferred.
- Cross-cultural mindset.
