Overnight Lead Custodian
Department: Plant and Facilities Operations
Location: Columbia, MO
Type: Full-time
Pay: $15.25 - $15.75 per hour (Pay range may vary based on geographic location)

Job Summary:
The Lead Custodian provides coordination of custodial operations to accomplish the department goals and objectives as defined by management. This position will assist the supervisor in directing and supervising the custodial staff to complete the cleaning of buildings, performing and tearing down set-ups, removing trash and other custodial duties as directed.
Essential Functions:
  • Perform job duties in accordance with Columbia College’s vision, mission and values, and contributes to the development of the Plant & Facilities Operations Department.
  • Practice superior customer service.
  • Fulfill additional responsibilities as assigned.
  • Display respect and civility to all constituencies in all communications.
  • Attend work timely and on a regular basis during the established hours of operation; work additional hours as business necessitates.
  • Perform job duties in accordance with Columbia College’s vision, mission and values, and contributes to the development of the Plant & Facilities Operations Department.
  • Performs duties of regular custodian.
  • Ensures employees complete routine cleaning in area assignments.
  • Delegate area assignments in the absence of supervisor.
  • Ensure completion of work orders, set-ups, and projects assigned by supervisor.
  • Schedule and delegate project cleaning with supervisor, including but not limited to floor and carpet care.
  • Inspect areas and report damage and needed repairs.
  • Assist in restocking custodial closets and report supply inventory regularly.
  • Upon request, take down set-ups after events, putting away all items and/or equipment used.
  • Help conduct classroom and on-the-job training.
  • Inform supervisor of night crew performance, including tracking absentees.
  • Work with supervisor on vacation/time-out requests.
  • Provide supervisor with recommendations on custodial staff evaluations.
  • Assist with snow removal.
Supervisory Responsibility: Coordination of shift operations in absence of supervisor
Position reports to: Custodial Supervisor
Required Core Competencies and Professional Experience:
  • Ability to fluently read, write, and understand the English language.
  • Proficiency with the following, but not limited to: active listening; speaking; writing; critical thinking; judgment and decision making; monitoring; reading comprehension; time management; coordination; and management of personnel resources.
  • Proficiency for using a variety of computer and technology-related software and equipment, including Microsoft Office products and database systems.
  • Proficiency in using web-based technologies, including database systems.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment, with or without direct supervision.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, customer service, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and delegate work.
  • Ability to train new custodian.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience in custodial service area.
Preferred Core Competencies and Professional Experience:
  • Experience in supervision.
  • Extensive experience in custodial service areas, including various types of floor care.
  • Received prior custodial-related training programs or workshop certification.
  • Knowledge of chemicals, tools, and equipment related to custodial service.
  • Knowledge of cleaning methods and procedures, including floor and carpet care.
  • Knowledge of custodial safety precautions and procedures
Required Level of Education: High School Diploma or GED
Special Requirements (if any):
  • Ability to lift minimum 50 pounds.
  • Valid Missouri Class E driver’s license or the ability to obtain one.
  • Must meet and maintain requirements as an approved driver for Columbia College.
