ABOUT PATH
PATH is a non-profit provider of shelter and supportive services for the homeless with locations throughout Southern California, Santa Barbara, and San Jose, primarily serving veterans, families, and the chronically homeless. Funding comes from government agencies, foundations, and individuals, and we currently have over 100 grants from over 30 funders.
WHAT IS A PEER SUPPORT SPECIALIST?
As part of one of PATH's San Diego-based outreach programs, Peer Support Specialists provide direct client services as well as case management and outreach support to help ensure clients gain access to and receive the support and services necessary to break the cycle of homelessness.
MAKE A DIFFERENCE THROUGH ACTION
- Work as part of a team to develop Individualized Service Plans with clients that are client centered and
identify clear objectives. - Utilize lived experience to engage clients in active participation in their goals and activities to promote
recovery and resiliency. - Provide case management, housing location, temporary financial assistance, and assistance enrolling in VA
healthcare, MediCal and accessing applicable health services. - Monitor client progression through their Individualized Service Plans (ISPs).
WHAT YOU BRING
- Experience providing direct services to vulnerable individuals, including those with health, mental health, and substance abuse issues.
- Demonstrated ability to work with diverse communities.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of the team.
- Mature, professional judgment.
- Strong problem-solving and conflict resolution skills.
- Proficiency with computers including good working knowledge of Microsoft Office software.
- Flexibility, adaptability, and the capability of working in a fast-paced, professional environment.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Lived experience with homelessness, mental health, or substance use challenges.
- Peer Support Certification.
MANDATORY REQUIREMENTS
Regardless of qualifications, candidates must:
- Have employment eligibility verification
- Have or be able and willing to obtain CPR/First Aid training
- Provide proof of full COVID-19 vaccination
- Successfully complete the following as a condition of hire:
- Tuberculosis Test
- Background Screening
- Drug Test
DRIVING
Driving is an essential function of this position. To meet the employment requirements for this role, all candidates must:
- Have reliable transportation
- A valid driver's license
- Proof of insurance and ownership for personal vehicles used during work duties
- The ability to qualify for PATH's insurance coverage
COVID-19 VACCINATION
Effective 11/01/2021 ll require all employees to be fully vaccinated for COVID-19. All prospective hires will be expected to provide proof of full vaccination as part of the pre-employment credentialing process.
FLEXIBLE WORK
We are a California employer. Therefore, all regular and customary work must be performed within the state. Approval for work outside of the office, does not establish approval for work to be conducted outside of California.
