Job Description

  • Part of systems group – General industries (not automotive but could pull into auto /paint group as needed)
  • Individual contributor- though JD sounds managing teams etc
  • Support mix of legacy and new projects – close punch list items on legacy projects and initiate control SW /logic plans for new projects, as new projects get awarded
  • Works closely with various internal stakeholders (app engineers, shop floor techs, PLC programmers, robot techs) and external stakeholders (engineers from small to large built shops-customer/user base).
  • Engineers behind the desk and validate on the floor working with all stakeholders
  • Serve as technical consultant to Sales and Marketing on new bids
  • Serve as technical consultant to Client customer service group- major part; available on the phone or visit the sites with customer service techs if required; walk through/debug wiring I/Fs , PLC code etc
  • Participate in electrical and controls design reviews of automated systems (new projects); supports Client vendors - build and assembly shops- during build and assembly of automated systems
  • sound knowledge of Siemens /A/B PLC controllers and HMIs ; Client Robot /robot controller knowledge is required but may not be mandatory (all have similar architecture); Toyopuc or Mitsubishi PLC is good to have but not mandatory ;
  • Develop deep understanding of Client inhouse tools /labs for digital validation (good to have)
  • Hands on experience; Guide the floor techs with wiring changes to reflect logic changes-must have; wiring diagrams / I/F dwgs creating experience nice to have; Guide the robot programmers to optimize I/O, PLC logic for cycle time validation (JD calls for robot programming experience – nice to have)
  • Familiar with distributed PLC and plant and client robot application environments
  • Sound knowledge of servo controls, VFDs, vision systems, scanners, cameras, pneumatic – required
  • Well versed with plant ergonomic, safety, maintenance, and operating standards for general purpose automation
  • Willingness to travel (travel with systems and techs to sites during installation, debug, and commissioning)
  • Discipline and keeping up with documentation, programming guides, drawings, and the changes
  • Responsible for final release of project documentation (client doesn't get paid until the engineer releases final prints and documents
