POSITION DESCRIPTON:
This is a non-sworn position. The Wisconsin State Fair Park Police Department (WSFP PD) Reserve Officer performs a variety of public safety work security and protection of citizens attending the annual Wisconsin State Fair. The Reserve Officer may be called upon to assist in maintaining the preservation of public peace, safety, and good order within the Wisconsin State Fair Park. The Reserve Officer also performs special assignments to include assisting sworn personnel on the Mounted Unit, Police Information Booths, Booking Officers, security checkpoints, and other duties assigned under the direction of police supervisors. We are looking to fill up to nine (9) positions.
As approved by the Chief of Police, Civilian Police Reserve Officers who have demonstrated aptitude, a positive attitude, and dedicated work ethic may be sponsored by the WSFP PD to attend the Wisconsin Law Enforcement 720-hour Recruit Academy certifying them as a sworn Wisconsin Law Enforcement Officer.
EMPLOYMENT TYPE :
This position is an unclassified, Limited Term Employment (LTE) position within the State of Wisconsin employment system. This is a seasonal position, supporting the annual Wisconsin State Fair. More than 40 hours per week may be required leading up to and during the annual Wisconsin State Fair. Annual hours worked will not exceed 1,039.
COMPENSATION:
The hourly wage for this role is $15.00 per hour.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
This particular role will be focused on one of the three following specialty areas: Booking, Administrative Support or Patrol. Specific Duties include but are not limited to:
- Assist sworn law enforcement personnel as directed
- Provides assistance to the public in both emergency and non-emergency situations
- Takes appropriate action on matters affecting public safety
- Performs specialized assignments and duties as assigned by the Chief of Police or designee
- Performs other duties as assigned
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :
- The ability to work during the annual Wisconsin State Fair
- Able to work cooperatively and harmoniously with the public and others
- Interact courteously with all levels of supervision
- Ability to understand and apply department protocols that are applicable to the position
- Communicate effectively both orally and in writing
- Proficiency in the use and maintenance of equipment applicable to the position
- Ability to successfully complete all mandatory training requirements applicable to position
Education and Employment Requirements:
- Must be a minimum of 18 years of age and a citizen of the State of Wisconsin
- Must have a high school diploma or GED
- No felony convictions, unless fully pardoned
- Free from physical, emotional, or mental condition which might adversely affect performance of duties as a Reserve Officer
- Be of good moral character

- Portable two-way radios
- Handcuffs
- Pepper Spray
Physical and Environmental Demands:
- Regular: Standing, bending, use of both hands, arms and legs, simultaneous mental/muscular coordination, oral communication, hearing, near and far vision, depth perception, color identification, feeling, twisting and pressure involving wrists, arms and hands.
- Frequent: Walking, climbing stairs, balancing, reaching, repetitive finger movements.
- Occasional: Moderate and light lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping, kneeling.
- Be able to endure exposure to extreme heat and limited cold, loud noises, dusty conditions, unsanitary conditions, and possible blood borne exposure.
- Be able to perform duties in an outdoor setting including all weather conditions.
SPECIAL NOTES:
Candidate must be able to work all 11 days of the annual Wisconsin State Fair; for 2023 these dates are August 3 – 13, 2023. Prior to appointment to this position, the candidate will be subject to a comprehensive Police criminal background check.
