Roles & Responsibilities:
Responsible for representing the organization as a professional medical facility (both in person and by telephone) and providing efficient and effective department clerical/secretarial duties in the Medical Practice
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Ensures that patients and visitors are greeted promptly and courteously
2. Registers and transacts patients promptly and accurately using current computer system
3. Updates pertinent patient information, including medical insurance coverage and eligibility
4. Ensures that all patients’ names appear on daily ledger sheets
5. Requests and collects past/present balances due
6. Schedules patient appointments
7. Provides Medical department with patient charts for all messages or inquires received
8. Retrieves and files medical reports/lab results
9. Maintains the patient waiting room and front desk area
10. Retrieves all specialty appointment schedules
11. Processes HMO referrals as requested by Physician, Practice Management
12. Communicates to Clinical Staff all patient emergencies
13. Answers telephones with name and office location
14. Takes messages to ensure follow-up on all calls
15. Files and maintains file units
16. Balances ledger sheets and accounts for all monies received
17. Responsible for all aspects of the cash box and the contents within
18. Notifies Office Administrator or Reimbursement/Front Office Coordinator when change is needed
19. Batches manually registered and transacted charts
20. Provides information to other departments as requested
21. Provides assistance with uncovered shifts
22. Updates reference manuals
23. Confirms appointments
24. Notifies Practice Manager or Office Manager of any problems in the office such as when office supplies are needed
25. Calls insurance companies to verify coverage and eligibility
26. Forwards to specialty offices all information pertinent to scheduled appointments; i.e., labs, referrals, ex-rays, etc.
27. Assists with chart review
28. Obtains approval for workers compensation cases, MRIs, etc.

The Mount Sinai Health System (MSHS) provides a salary range to comply with the New York City Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $20.90 - $22.06 Hourly. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
