The Role
Shell Scotford is located approximately 40 km from Edmonton Alberta, Canada. The site consists of an Upgrader that processes bitumen from the Albian Oil Sands facility in Fort McMurray as part of our Joint Venture agreement, a Refinery unit that converts vacuum gas oils and light hydrocarbon streams produced by the upgrader and a Chemicals facility comprised of a Mono-Ethylene Glycol (MEG) plant and an Ethylbenzene and Styrene Monomer (EBSM) plant. Scotford is also home to Quest, an integrated carbon capture and storage facility.
The site Projects Group consists of a multi discipline team of project development and project engineering professionals that work together to deliver a site wide portfolio of small capital projects with individual project headline sizes less than $50 million CAD for the Scotford Upgrader, Refinery and Chemicals plants.
Our Projects Group is currently seeking a Project Engineer who will be responsible for managing projects within this portfolio though using the Shell Opportunity Realization Work Process.
Responsibilities for this role include:
- Lead all projects through the project definition, detailed design phase, execution phase to project close-out
- Manage cost, schedule, resource planning, contracting, procurement, detailed design review facilitation, and development of the required team culture in support of achieving project goals
- Lead multi-discipline projects through developing a strong understanding of project needs and interfacing with technical disciplines that may be outside of core competencies
- Assess and effectively manage project and technical risk in conjunction with the Production Area Teams
- Interface with production and maintenance planning teams to plan and deliver a quality start-up in a brownfield setting, managing the operations readiness, completions and commissioning and start-up aspects of the project to asset Transition phase
- Interface closely with EPC companies to complete project engineering requirements based on the phase of the project
- Champion overall safety, quality, costs, schedule, and delivery of the agreed to scope for assigned projects
- Simultaneously manage multiple projects as various stages of execution
- Make many key decisions relating to project scope and execution within short timeframes
- Understand and comply with process safety risk reduction concepts, properly applying Shell Design Engineering Practices, Shell work processes and industry standards
- Influence colleagues and stakeholders with different priorities in order to maintain project schedule
- Collaborate with team members while build effective relationships with colleagues and stakeholders all levels of the organization
Skills and Requirements:
- Must be eligible to work for any employer in Canada without sponsorship
- Must have a bachelor’s degree or diploma in Engineering or Technology, preferably in control systems, chemical, mechanical or instrumentation engineering discipline
- Possess a P.Eng or P.L.Eng or must be eligible for accreditation with APEGA in either a Professional Engineering or Professional Licensee capacity
- Minimum 10 years’ experience preferably in project management or a combination of project management and discipline engineering
- Experience working with new digital platforms, protype communication technology and advanced construction/fabrication methods
- PMP or APMQ certification is preferred
- Experience with SAP and Primavera is preferred
- Experience working with Contract negotiation and Procurement would be an asset
- Continuous Improvement and Process Improvement experience would be an asset
