Job Summary
Dr. Joanne Weinberg’s laboratory is looking to hire a Research Assistant/Technician 2 to join the team. The Research Assistant (RA) will work on a variety of research projects that focus on studying the impact of prenatal alcohol exposure on the gut-brain-immune system across the lifespan. The RA will take a leading role in establishing study protocols/procedures for a research collaboration taking place at the University of Calgary and therefore must be located in Calgary. The RA will primarily work from home, with regularly scheduled Zoom meetings with study team members. In person meetings will be scheduled at the Alberta Children’s Hospital on a regular basis initially, and then as needed. This is a 55% FTE position.
Organizational Status
The Research Assistant (RA) will work closely with members of Dr. Joanne Weinberg’s research group, with oversight by Dr. Weinberg and Dr. Tamara Bodnar, Senior Research Associate in the Laboratory.

- Data management including entering questionnaires into Qualtrics and producing data dictionaries.
- Preparing research packages to be sent out to study participants and tracking their return.
- Data organization and management.
- Assisting in the recruitment of research study subjects (children and adults with Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder).
- Other research-related activities, as needed.

- Bachelor Degree in Psychology, Biology, Neuroscience or a related discipline (completed or ongoing) is preferred.
- Ability to work with people of diverse backgrounds, including children and adults with developmental disabilities.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Willingness to learn, take initiative, and be strongly self-directed.
- Capacity to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Strong computer skills and experience with a research management system such as REDCap or Qualtrics is an asset.
- Past experience recruiting research subjects is an asset.
- Ability to communicate effectively in English (verbally and in writing).
