In this role, you will be a member of our diverse group services team which houses human resources, accounting/finance, marketing, business development, IT, and administration. We are currently looking for a Senior Accountant for our Westport, CT office. This position is an integral part of the accounting team and assists in maintaining and providing timely and accurate financial statements in adherence with GAAP and ensuring company compliance with federal and state tax agencies. The position will be focused on integration of our acquisition and merger candidates but also help with the month end close process.
- Assist M&A Finance Director with integration of M&A including purchase accounting.
- Assist with preparation of financial statements, analysis, and monthly supplemental schedule preparation.
- Maintains general ledger by transferring subsidiary accounts, preparing a trial balance, and reconciling entries.
- Making journal entries for receipts, payments, and other financial transactions.
- Maintain fixed asset records and depreciation schedules.
- Prepare bank and general ledger account reconciliations.
- Maintain equipment and real estate lease schedules and ensure appropriate accounting for capital leases and rents.
- Summarize and prepare financial status and transactions reports, including a profit and loss statement, and other necessary reports.
- Completes external audit by analyzing and scheduling general ledger accounts and providing information for auditors.
- Comply with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements.
- Protects organization’s value by keeping information confidential.
- Perform other duties that are reasonably associated with the above essential functions and additional duties assigned by supervisor.
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Business Administration or Finance is required.
- Five years of accounting experience at a mid-sized company is required.
- Current experience in the service or construction industry is preferred.
- Certification: CPA preferred
- Intermediate to advanced knowledge of Excel, Word, Outlook and Quick Books.
- Experience with a fully integrated financial system such as MAS200, Great Plains or Deltek.
- Ability to sort, check, count, and verify numbers.
- Ability to multi-task, prioritize and work efficiently and independently, self-starter, energetic.
- Ability to demonstrate good common sense and sound judgment.
- Ability to perform at high levels in a fast paced, ever-changing work environment.
- Ability to anticipate work needs and follow through with minimum direction.
- Flexibility to adapt to all situations and work varied hours; possibly work weekends or evenings.
- Apply knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures in the relevant industry.
