Marsh McLennan (MMC) Database Services are growing at fast pace and currently have an opportunity for a creative and inquisitive MongoDB Database Administrator. This role could be based remotely, out of Canada office locations, with a degree of remote working also available.

Assigning, directs and evaluating work, conducting performance evaluations, progressive counseling and career development discussions.

Provides critical input in to hiring, discipline and termination decisions as well as salary and bonus actions.

Leads a team which provides support 24/7 to global users.

Directs staff to modify database structures using database administration tools and programming as needed.

Directs and troubleshoots database issues to keep existing databases running efficiently.

Troubleshoots a wide range of issues including server availability and coding issues for database configurations.

Directs, plans and executes strategic database activities including installation, configuration and upgrading of Oracle server software and products.

Creates and sizes database storage structures and objects.

Plans for and backup and recovery of database information.

Supports strategic direction for database platforms by evaluating and making recommendations for new platforms.

  • Our Database Services team are Global, this role could be based remotely, out of any of our Canada office locations, with a degree of remote working also available.

We will rely on you to:

  • Design and construct large non-relational databases.
  • Integrate new systems with existing structure and refine system performance and functionality.
  • Manage data integration and train users on effective implementation of database practices
  • Take complex codes and break them down logically for end-user understanding
  • Compute solutions to data problems in a timely manner with techniques that offer long-term success
  • Transmit information feedback between end-users and data specialists to ensure high-quality programs
  • Research industry best practices in emerging technologies and implement into database design
  • Maintain an open and optimistic point of view to build broad systems that provide dependable and customized usage to multiple end-users
  • Provide support with continuing maintenance, updates and upgrades; identifying and fixing problems as they arise
  • Provide recommendations for performance tuning and improvements to existing databases

What you need to have:

  • 10+ years of database experience or other related computer science experience
  • Bachelor's degree preferred or equivalent work experience
  • Sound knowledge of Relational DBMS (Database Management Systems)
  • Talented in Database and cloud computing design, architectures, and data lakes

MongoDB Skills

  • Build/Configure Mongo RS and shard
  • Implement appropriate indexes for performance improvement.
  • Fine-tune configurations – MongoDB and servers for performance improvement.
  • Implement optimal backup and recovery.
  • Understand and optimize query performance.
  • Create and publish database health checks to monitoring systems for the following:
  • Identify slow queries
  • Replication lags
  • Node failures
  • Index usage patterns
  • CPU usage
  • Memory usage
  • Locks
  • Number of connections
  • Any other relevant params
  • Evaluate, plan and perform the DB upgrades.
  • Maintenance – during release/outage etc.
  • Implementing best practices for backups, replication, and health checks.
  • Database hardening – implement best practices.
  • Design and implement DR plans & HA solutions and recommendations.
  • Work closely with the application team to understand what changes are coming in a build/patch/hotfix, do an impact analysis, fine-tune the queries if any.
  • Automate the database repetitive tasks.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Skills:

  • 10+ year’s hands-on experience as DBA and 4+ years on MongoDB.
  • Understanding of enterprise application technology architecture, components, databases, networking, and infrastructure as code.
  • Encryption(TLS 2)
  • Strong DBA Experience – MongoDB.
  • Write efficient queries.
  • Strong scripting experience - Unix/Shell Scripting, Python
  • Technical knowledge of Linux & Windows-based platforms
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • LDAPs configuration for authentication

Desired Skills:

Hands-on experience in AWS

Disaster Recovery and Business continuity
