Salary Range: $125,000 - $160,000

The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Position Summary

The Senior Director, Communications (SD) in partnership with the Senior Executive Director (SED), is responsible for the School’s strategic communications effort meant to enhance the School’s identity. The incumbent leads school-wide, cross-functional efforts to develop multi-media communications campaigns and execute communication campaign strategies. The incumbent ensures the best-in-class production standards including a distribution and engagement strategy consistent with the larger university. The SD will promote, through multi-faceted communications plans, the School’s mission, academic programs, admissions and recruiting efforts, as well other events and activities based on the Dean’s vision that is timely, relevant, and engaging, and that serves internal constituents and promotes wider recognition among prospective students and other external national and international audiences.

Responsibilities

Leadership

Manage all communications staff in the creation and distribution of content across all communication media

Build strong partnerships with the Events, Media Production, Design, and Marketing teams to support content creation and distribution across media, including the website, newsletter, social media platforms, email, and print materials, among others particularly as it relates to academic program promotion.

Content Management

Partner with Events, Media Production, and Design teams to direct content creation and distribution across media, including the website, newsletter, social media platforms, email, and print materials, among others.

Develop, proof, and edit content to distribute across multiple channels including news, materials, media projects on a variety of topics with the goal of maximizing exposure of the School, strategic initiatives and events

Drive processes with stakeholders within the School and across the University to align content distribution across all media channels

Collaborate with external media and public relations firms to align the distribution and promotion of SPS content

Oversee and monitor general media and social media channels for relevant content to promote the goals of the school

Attend and direct others to attend designated events for the purpose of creating content, including print/web content and video content for distribution

Social Media Strategy

Direct social media campaigns and support at the school and all of the programs to achieve their social media goals

Develop social media campaigns and oversee production of posts and stories

Contribute actively to social media messaging for the school, chiefly on Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, and Facebook (and through other, developing channels) to drive traffic

Review of platform analytics for the purpose of strategic content analysis and development

Perform other duties and projects as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree desirable

5-7 years of related experience

Demonstrated excellence and facility with all communication strategy and production, existing and emerging social media, web and email technologies

8-10 years of related experience

Other Requirements

Ability to produce written materials in a variety of formats, quickly, accurately, and effectively

Ability to Develop Communications Campaigns and oversee their content production

Collaborate with the team, School, and university stakeholders in content creation and distribution campaigns

Ability to synthesize complex materials into clearly understandable copy

Demonstrated excellence with all existing and emerging social media, web and email technologies

Executive presence and ability to attend high visibility events as a representative of the school

Demonstrated excellence in content production and curation

Excellent communication skills

Exceptional attention to detail, precision, and accuracy in tasks; strong organization and time management skills; and the ability to perform non-routine work with changing priorities and aggressive deadlines

Experience writing and editing press releases and content for varied audiences

Basic interview skills with the comfort level and drive required to approach or pursue sources, in-person or via telephone/video call, for information required for content development

Experience in collaborating with various stakeholder groups, including other writers on a creative team from concept to completion of projects and initiatives

Strong interest and experience working with social and new media, understanding the nuances of social media messaging for a variety of platforms including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, and HootSuite, and others, to leverage these technologies for marketing, advertising, communications, and public relations purposes

Portfolio/writing samples demonstrating content development

Basic knowledge of digital photography
