Position Summary
The Division of Research and Economic Development at Jackson State University is accepting applications for its Senior Program Manager position. The Senior Program Manager is a new position on our team to add capacity to support the commercialization of research-derived intellectual property. The Senior Program Manager will augment JSU’s technology transfer functions and enhance university engagement with the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center (“ERDC”), ERDCWERX, and other DoD partners. The manager will also support JSU’s regional entrepreneurship efforts to enhance economic development and facilitate startup company growth. Business development will be a large portion of these responsibilities, including marketing JSU’s research capabilities to increase DoD support.

Minimum Required Education
Bachelor’s degree required.
Minimum Required Experience
Two to three (2-3 ) years’ experience working in or around a technology start up, entrepreneurship support organization, a technology transfer/licensing role, research institution or federal lab, or experience analogous to this role.

Required Skills & Experience
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including translation of technical documents & ability to produce brief technology marketing summaries.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently on multiple projects with little supervision.
- Exemplary soft skills.
Preferred Skills & Experience
- Technical degree & strong interest/experience in leading-edge science and technologies.
- General understanding or experience with technology transfer and/or commercialization programs, including spin-out, patent licensing, cooperative agreements, entrepreneurial training, and private and/or public investment.
- Prior experience working in a technology transfer office is not required. However, candidates must possess a strong interest in early-stage technology commercialization and a willingness to learn Prior experience and deep business relationships within DoD research organizations and/or Mississippi.
- Advanced degree in science, engineering, business, or law.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Develop and cultivate strong relationships with individuals at ERDC, ERDCWERX, and other DoD entities to promote MSU research capabilities.
- Maintain a database of key contacts and relevant information useful to make connections and introductions.
- Recruit JSU researchers to submit applications for ERDC BOTA’s and similar funding opportunities.
- Promote opportunities for collaboration and JSU technologies available for license.
- Seek, identify, and promote collaborative research opportunities that could lead to IP or technology startups.
- Explore innovative strategies for effectively transferring JSU technologies to the commercial market & assist in identifying & marketing JSU technologies externally.
- Identify and recruit companies synergistic and complementary to JSU and ERDC research initiatives to assist in building a technology ecosystem in Vicksburg.
- Assist and provide support to JSU’s Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, especially with external outreach and engagement in connection with the MCITy satellite office.
- Actively promote JSU research capabilities and intellectual property and implement strategies to continuously improve marketing of both.
