Site Safety and Health Officer (SSHO)
Job description
The SSHO must have excellent interpersonal skills to cultivate a safety environment that reduces and eliminates hazards. This role is the “competent person” on site and provides safety direction while ensuring adherence to all safety regulations and programs with the Site Supervisor. The SSHO must build a culture of personal awareness and safety accountability.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
- Oversee safety of all daily operations on-site
- Attend weekly client and subcontractor meetings
- Attend all preparation meetings for new features of work
- Conduct regular daily safety meetings and as needed
- Conduct on-site orientation
- Responsible for providing first aid, confined space entry monitoring, and hazardous waste disposal as needed
- Conduct post-accident investigation and provide documentation
- Maintain and adhere to jobsite accident prevention plan
- Implement an activity hazard analysis for specific phases of work
- Conduct inspections, identify safety problems, and implement corrective measures
- Continual evaluation of site working conditions and weather conditions
- Maintain a positive working relationship with employees and client
Knowledge, Experience, and Skill Requirements:
- Must meet USACE SSHO requirements
- Current OSHA 30-hour certification
- 5 years of continuous field experience in a similar role
- Knowledge of construction safety and current Federal and OSHA requirements
- Excellent communication skills and personable
- Exceptional computer skill
- Experience in RMS
- Strong work ethic and self-starter
- Strong leadership and analytical skills
- Strong organization and planning skills
- Must have ability to wear full construction PPE to include fall arrest harnesses or respirators
Experience:
CSP, ASP or CHST are preferred
Working with USACE: 3 years (Preferred)
Construction Site Safety: 5 years (Preferred)
Job Type: Contract
Pay: $30.00 - $60.00 per hour
Schedule:
- 8 hour shift
- Day shift
Ability to commute/relocate:
- Portsmouth, VA: Reliably commute or planning to relocate before starting work (Required)
Experience:
- EHS: 3 years (Preferred)
License/Certification:
- OSHA 30 (Preferred)
Security clearance:
- Confidential (Preferred)
Willingness to travel:
- 25% (Preferred)
