Located out of our Calgary office, the SOX Compliance Analyst (“SOX Auditor”) reports to the Manager, SOX Compliance. This position is responsible for supporting successful execution of the internal controls over financial reporting (ICFR) testing plan to ensure compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) requirements. It includes assessing the efficiency and effectiveness of operations, evaluating findings, and providing recommendations, performing data analysis and reporting results.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) , in Accounting and Auditing designations (CPA, CA, or equivalent), with at least 2-5 years of experience in accounting, integrated auditing, internal controls and/or financial processes and reporting
  • Additional professional designations considered include:
    • CIA (Certified Internal Auditor)
Experience:
  • Knowledge of International Financial Reporting Standards (“IFRS”)
  • Strong knowledge of SOX requirements and experience assessing the design and operating effectiveness of internal controls; Big 4 experience is an asset
  • Experience managing business process testing with a good understanding of application controls
  • Familiarity with various internal control frameworks (PCOAB Audit Standards, COSO, etc.)
  • Experience using SAP or other ERP software
  • Prior experience in midstream, NGL extraction, crude oil optimization, Petro chemicals, or energy trading experience will be an asset
Skills:
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, along with strong or developing negotiation skills
  • Strong organization and follow-up skills, including the ability to handle competing priorities and meet all deadlines and commitments
  • Ability to flourish in a fast-paced, complex environment and willing to adapt to change.
  • Solid understanding and ability to apply risk and control concepts.
  • Ability to give and follow instructions accurately and efficiently; proactive in asking clarifying questions to ensure work effort is directed wholly toward desired outcome.
Key Activities and Responsibilities
  • Conduct or assist in the planning and completion of SOX Compliance activities.
  • Walk-through and document relevant business processes, risks, control activities and testing attributes
  • Obtain and review control evidence, ensuring audit conclusions are well-documented
  • Identify and communicate deficiencies raised, offering pragmatic recommended solutions relevant to business and risk
  • Address review notes in a timely manner and remain accountable for task completion
  • Advise the business and control owners in the design of controls for respective areas of SOX 404 implementation and ongoing maintenance
  • Assist in planning and implementing new procedures and providing advice to the business on SOX compliance
  • Always ensure adherence to all applicable department and professional standards
  • Liaise with external auditors in the performance of their internal control activities
  • Assist with SOX contractors design and testing documentation
