POSITION PURPOSE/MISSION:
Under the direction of the Tool Room Supervisor set up, adjust and operate all tool room equipment to construct, alter and repair tooling, dies, fixtures, molds, gauges and gauge components, machine attachments, pilot models, etc. Ensure maximum up‑time of production activities and meet company quality standards in accordance with company policies and procedures.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Frequent standing and walking.
- Occasional below waist level work, push/pulling, reaching, fine motor skills, forceful motion and lifting up to 50 lbs.
- Minimal foot use, climbing, balancing, carrying, and lifting up to 100 lbs.
- Ability to meet the physical requirements, with or without reasonable accommodation, as provided in detail in the Job Analysis Database.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Education and/or Experience:
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent
- Associate Degree in a technical field or one plus year progressively responsible related experience or
- a combination of education and experience.
- Ability to read and interpret detailed and complex documents such as blueprints, schematics, work plans, safety rules, and operating and maintenance instructions.
- Skills to communicate effectively with other employees of the organization.
- Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as cutting speeds and feeds, percentages, area, and circumference.
- Apply concepts of basic algebra, trigonometry and geometry.
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with ambiguity in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
- Ability to set up and operate all standard machine shop tools such as lathes, mills, drills, and grinders.
- Experience using a wide variety of precision measuring devices.
- Experience using small hand and power tools.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Associates Degree in CNC Machining or Tool and Die Making.
- Experience using lift equipment.
MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Set up and operate multiple machines to produce parts and tooling to meet specifications and quality standards on the CNC turning center and grinders.
- Set up and operate new/rework dies
- Set up lathes by installing and adjusting three- and four-jaw chucks, tools, attachments, collets, bushings, cams, gears, stops, and stock pushers; indicating vices; tramming heads
- Execute general daily machine inspection including oil and coolant
- With direction, organize and maintain all tool room parts and supplies.
- Work within specifications by completing drilling, grooving, and cutting, including turning, facing, knurling and thread chasing operations; taking measurements; detecting malfunctions; troubleshooting processes; adjusting and reprogramming controls; sharpening and replacing worn tools.
- Adhere to quality assurance procedures and processes and perform quality inspection of parts to ensure parts meet print requirements.
- Support training initiatives across the Tool Room
- Complete and maintain all required paperwork, records, files, documentation, etc.
- Maintain continuity among work shifts by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and ongoing needs by completing production and quality logs.
- Maintain technical competency and update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities, reading technical publications, etc.
- Apply Safety mindset by making safety a priority by following all safety requirements. Maintain safe operations by adhering to safety procedures and regulations. Follow and comply with all work rules and regulations.
- Maintain departmental housekeeping standards.
- Follow Environmental, Quality and Safety Management System procedures and requirements.
