Description: Yard Truck Driver


Drives switching equipment, trucks, and forklifts to transport goods or equipment to and from designated locations. Makes decisions in sequencing schedule to maintain efficient loading and unloading operations. Loads and unloads trailers and verifies product count. Maintains a clean and safe docking and trailer yard area reporting any maintenance or safety issues to supervision. Refuels vehicles on site and documents locations and condition of the equipment.

Responsibility and Duties:

  • Understands Yard Truck operation and responsible use of equipment.
  • Executes daily yard checks, physical inventory checks (requires opening trailers), and inspections.
  • Provides maintenance checks, cleans, and follow-up on ALL equipment as required.
  • Moves trailers to and from dock locations and the yard as needed.
  • Efficiently receives, loads, unloads, and moves trailers observing all safety regulations.
  • Ensuring required loads (i.e., Tankers, trailers) are weighed in and out. Starting and/or completing weighting ticket.
  • Completes trailer movement log sheets throughout the shift.
  • Maintains yard grounds and yard tractor clean.
  • Follows, maintains, and adheres to all safety rules and operating procedures, including DOT regulations.
  • Provides backup warehouse/forklift work as assigned, following warehouse standard operating procedures.
  • Reports trailers and equipment issues to leadership.
  • Ensures reefer trailers are fueled. Monitor fuel level.
  • Monitors reefer trailers are operational.
  • Provides excellent service to internal customers with effective deliveries/pickups through good teamwork.
  • Assists in training team members.
  • Performs miscellaneous tasks as assigned by Warehouse Lead/Supervisor/Manager.
  • Follows CPF policies and procedures.
  • Follows Good Manufacturing practices.
  • Participates in continuous improvement processes.
  • Must help in the warehouse freezer when required.

Qualifications:

Valid Class A License with CDL

Ability to lift, push or pull up to 55.1 pounds.

  • Ability to maintain DOT Physical Certification
  • Ability to work weekends and holidays
  • Ability to work beyond scheduled hours as needed.
  • Adaptable and flexible to organizational workflow needs
  • Must be reliable
  • Proficient in basic computer skills
  • Understand and respond to written and verbal instructions
  • Forklift experience preferred.
  • Self-Motivated
  • Proven ability to prioritize workload

Education and/or Experience: High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or six to twelve months related experience and/or training; Forklift experience preferred.

Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as production schedules, inventory reports, sales forecasts, safety rules, motor carrier regulations, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

Computer Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have proficient typing and computer skills including knowledge of Internet software; Inventory software; Order processing systems; Spreadsheet software (MS Excel), Word Processing software (MS Word) and Email software (Office 365). The individual should also have knowledge of and be competent in the use of Warehouse Management System software and hardware, including hand held scanning devices.

Certificates, Licenses. Registrations: Must attain within seven (7) working days of initial hire or placement in this position and maintain a current and valid forklift and pallet jack operator's license.

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The employee is often required to stand and walk. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 55 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment: While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is occasionally exposed to wet, cold, hot, and/or humid conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. However, the employee may be required to enter production areas where noise is loud and hearing protection is required
