This branch is a full-service branch that provides the following offerings: vulcanizing, pulley lagging, bearing replacement, belt slitting, mechanical splice installation, belt refurbishment, belt cleaner parts/service, product storage and more. Bessemer personnel are equipped and available 24/7 to respond to the customers’ requests for service.

JOB SUMMARY:

Belt Cleaner Technicians are front-line, customer facing employees pivotal to the long-term success of ICR. Our belt cleaner technicians can expect to work in a variety of environments from indoor to outdoor, above and below ground, with varying weather conditions.

This position requires no experience, and ICR will train prospective applicants, under the direction of management and a crew lead, to perform an assortment of tasks for our customers as they relate to conveyor cleaning systems. Work may be located at our shop location or on-site at a customer location.

Belt Cleaner Technicians may encounter duties that include performing preventative maintenance tasks, troubleshooting mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, or electrical problems related to all material handling equipment, tracking, managing, and storing all required inventory needed for service of conveyor and belt cleaner systems, working with powered or hand tools, operating equipment such as forklifts, telehandlers, or other company vehicles, responding to customer inquiries and directing questions to the appropriate personnel, promoting a safe working environment by following all safety procedures at all times, and performing additional duties that may be required by management as directed.

COMPENSATION:

$22.00 - $30.00 per hour, based on experience and qualifications.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Welding in a variety of environments and with differing equipment. Welding needs may be on site with an Arc Welder, or in shop utilizing TIG/MIG.
  • Use of a cutting torch and safe handling of all supplies associated.
  • Evaluating the entire conveyor system and belt line to determine the proper type of belt cleaner required, including the blade hardness and compound required of the belt cleaner blade.
  • Proper tensioning of belt cleaner including adjustment of water, air, or CO2.
  • Meticulous and expert measurements essential to job functions.
  • Occasional rigging and signaling for crane lifting procedures.
  • Frontline customer service through answering questions, responding to complaints, completing requested tasks, and directing inquiries to the appropriate personnel.
  • Review of a JSA (Job Safety Analysis) report prior to work start.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and instruction manuals to determine correct work procedures.
  • Inspect and test machinery to diagnose malfunctions, using precision instruments.
  • Dismantle machinery to remove parts and make repairs, reassemble equipment after completion of repairs.
  • Clean, lubricate, and perform other routine maintenance work on belt cleaner systems and any associated conveyor system machinery.
  • Align and calibrate parts and mechanisms.
  • Commute to and from customer work sites with crew members.
  • Load and offload work trucks and semi-trailers.
  • Operate telehandlers, forklifts, and/or manlifts.
  • Repair conveyor belt using methods such as synthetic rubber repair, vulcanizing, mechanical splices and more.
  • Set up, tear down, and maintain support structure.
  • Grease and changeout rollers/idlers as required.
  • Belt cleaner system installation and maintenance.
  • Chute and other metal fabrication.
  • Installing and repairing industrial electrical components such as motors, gears, pulleys, and control panels.
  • Coordinate with other employees to ensure that materials are being handled in a safe, correct, and efficient manner.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Certified Welder (CW) certification required.
  • Smartphone required.
  • 2+ years of experience or schooling in a welding/fabrication/conveyor field required with demonstrated skills/certifications relating to welding, blueprint reading, measurement and cutting mastery.
  • MSHA Red Hat / Black Hat surface and underground required.
  • Forklift / telehandler certifications a plus, but not required.

JOB SKILLS:

  • Experience in GTAW, SMAW, GMAW, FCAW welding.
  • Hand tool mastery required, including EXPERT knowledge, use, and understanding of a tape measure and units of measurement.
  • Basic math experience required – i.e. making calculations of amounts, sizes, or measurements and utilizing concepts like addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
  • Ability to lift 40-75lbs on a regular basis, and occasionally up to 100lbs.
  • Safety conscious and responsible, always wearing all required site-regulated PPE (company provided).
  • Ability to visually inspect machinery and equipment to ensure safe operations and quality control.

JOB DETAILS:

This role is a regular employee, full-time hourly position that is normally scheduled 6 days on, 2 days off with rotating shifts. Shifts range outlined below:

  • 1stShift – Sunday through Saturday, 8:00 am – 4:00 pm
  • 2ndShift – Sunday through Saturday, 4:00 pm – 12:00 am
  • 3rdShift – Sunday through Saturday, 12:00 am – 8:00 am

Shift length is typically 8-12 hours, depending on the needs of the business.

Overtime work may be required based on the needs of the business.

Overtime pay is 1.5x the base rate for all hours worked over 40 within a work week.

Holiday pay is 1.5x the base rate for all hours worked during a company recognized holiday. After the employee has been employed for 60 days, holiday pay is provided for any holidays not worked at regular pay rate for 8 hours.

Travel for this position is regularly required, generally within a 3-hour radius of the employee’s shop location. When travelling, the employee is expected to ride with crew members (usually 4-6 individuals) in a company provided vehicle. Speed is GPS monitored. While travelling, the employee will earn a separate travel rate. Any travel hours accrued count toward the employee total hours worked as well as overtime calculations.

Hotel stays while travelling will be arranged and covered by the company, if required. Employees will be expected to share a room with a crew member. Per diem will be applied to company provided meal card for each overnight stay.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Majority of work is completed in a factory floor/warehouse/outdoor environment with exposure to loud levels of noise in a well-lit, well-ventilated, and fast paced environment. Continuously required to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, twist, bend, stand, and reach with hands or arms. Continuously required to hear and/or respond to verbal/audio cues, see and/or respond to visual cues, perform repetitive motions of entire body, and adjust product with hands, mechanical equipment, and/or hand tools. The employee must frequently lift and/or move 40 to 75 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds. While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and moderate levels of cold and/or heat. The employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts.
