Posting Overview:
The Lambton Kent District School Board provides educational services to more than 22,000 students in 64 elementary and secondary schools. We have school board offices in the two main centers in our district: The Municipality of Chatham-Kent and the City of Sarnia.
The Database Administrator (DBA) will be located in the Sarnia Education Centre and report to the Coordinator of Enterprise Applications. They will manage, monitor, support and maintain the smooth operation of the Board’s database platforms and the applications using them. The DBA designs, develops, deploys, supports and maintains add-on systems, modules, interfaces and centralized reports using a variety of development tools and programming languages. They will participate in on-going projects for major upgrades and new major systems implementations. The DBA provides user and technical support for all database applications used by the district.
Qualifications/Experience:
- three-year Community College - Computer Science diploma is a minimum; extensive related experience will be considered;
- at least three years of experience with database systems and/or software development is preferred.
Other Key Skills & Knowledge:
- provide user support for all centralized database applications/systems; current database technology used in Microsoft SQL;
- install and configure application servers in a virtualized (VMware) environment;
- install upgrades, releases, patches and fixes to the applications/systems and database platforms;
- analyze, design, develop, maintain, deploy and support interfaces, new add-on modules, new in-house applications and centralized reports using a variety of development tools and programming languages;
- manage all aspects of centralized databases including; monitor the growth patterns of data within the database and establish and implement space requirements;
- recommend and implement automated backup procedures for databases;
- investigate, troubleshoot and resolve application and database issues;
- implement new applications, including participating as a team member of implementation projects;
- provide knowledge, expertise and advice regarding application processes, database configuration, software development, interfaces, data migration, data population and reporting;
- identify, develop, recommend and implement procedures and business processes/rules for existing and new applications;
- excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
- excellent prioritization skills; must be able to excel in a challenging work environment with constantly changing priorities and a mixture of project and production tasks;
- excellent technical knowledge and ability, analytical and problem solving skills, programming/scripting skills;
- a confident self-starter who uses their initiative to resolve complex problems on database systems and works well with system users;
- all other duties as assigned by the Coordinator of Enterprise Applications.
Position Effective Date & Length:
Non Union, Permanent, 12 month, 35 hours/week
Rate of Pay: $63,795/annum - $70,883/annum
Located at the Sarnia Education Centre.
