Purpose
Plans and executes programs that promote comprehensive educational opportunities for Cockrell School of Engineering students, along with the Ramshorn Scholars Program, and assists with delivery of academic advising services.
Responsibilities
-
Assist the Assistant Director with the Ramshorn Scholars Program. Establish a positive and informative relationship between Ramshorn students and the Cockrell School; Provide direct advising support to all Ramshorn students; Implement first year programming, including coordinating First-Year Interest Groups; Hire, train, and manage academic coaches, including processing timesheets; Plans events for Ramshorn Scholars, including welcome programs, study breaks, and other community building events.

Conduct routine developmental academic advising to include managing adds, drops, and withdrawals, appeal reviews, academic and scholastic probation advising and appeal reviews, crisis intervention advising, career counseling, resource referrals, major change advising, course selection advising for new first-year students, present prospective information sessions, FIG facilitator, and assist with the coordination of graduation student line up and commencement activities.

Participate in university-wide and school-wide activities, such as Family Weekend, Order of the Engineer, Honors Day, Explore UT, and Commencement.

Other functions as assigned.
Required Qualifications
-
Bachelor's degree and five years of experience working with college students in a counseling or advising capacity.
-
Commitment to working with and supporting diverse populations of undergraduate students and their families and engaging with students, faculty and staff from a wide range of backgrounds.
-
High energy, team player with strong, dynamic written, verbal and presentation skills.
-
Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to communicate with all levels of constituents; students, families, faculty and other staff members.
-
Able to work independently and in teams with overlapping projects.
-
Experience managing student programs and demonstrated professional demeanor.
-
Experience working with software for databases, spreadsheets, presentations and/or desktop publishing.
-
Familiarity with video and web conferencing software such as Zoom and Microsoft Teams.
Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
Preferred Qualifications
-
Master’s degree and three years of experience working in higher education or in a STEM environment.
-
Experience working with high school or college-aged students.
-
Experience supervising students and/or volunteers.
-
Able to work in a multi-faceted environment with tightly scheduled programs and deadlines.
-
Strong communication and organizational skills.
-
Appreciation for and knowledge of engineering /STEM education and knowledge with the University of Texas at Austin and the Cockrell School of Engineering.
-
Knowledge of the undergraduate student processes at UT Austin, familiarity with mainframe functionality, IDA, Advisors Toolkit, EASI, and EAB Navigate.
Salary Range
$50,000 + depending on qualifications
Working Conditions

Work is performed in a standard office environment.

Occasional travel may be required.
-
Work outside normal business hours will be required on a periodic basis during peak periods and for special events.
Work Shift

Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

Flexible schedule and/or hybrid telework options are available.

Work outside of normal business hours, to include evenings and weekends, may be required on an occasional basis for special events.
