Position Summary
Washington University seeks to hire a Deputy Chief of Staff to serve a high-leverage operational role within the Chancellor’s office. The Deputy Chief of Staff serves a high-leverage operational role within the Chancellor’s office. This role manages the critical interfaces for the executive team: from project management, CRM, strategic writing, technology and automation, day-to-day operation, and evolution of the physical office. Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Establish and maintain best practices to strategically grow and utilize the Salesforce CRM platform; train staff on use; manage system and overall direction of use of technology.
- Project management of strategic initiatives.
- Liaise with university offices of human resources and finance on office staffing, budgets, and Workday approval flow.
- Manage all aspects of office physical space; oversee future build-out in coordination with university facilities department.
- Represent office on university emergency management team; liaise with WUPD and Emergency Management Team on office safety and security; manage office continuity plan.
- Serve as Chancellor’s office representative on wide variety of university-wide committees.
- Manage office contracts, track service deficits, interface with purchasing and general counsel; prepare annual reports as assigned.
- Prepare communications and briefings for leadership.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Vice Chancellor for Strategic Initiatives and University Governance.
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced degree.
- Experience in higher education and management of complex organizations.
- 10+ or more years of leadership with CRM, Salesforce and data governance.
- High aptitude for technology and data management.
- Possess the experience, stature, and presence to lead in a complex, fast-moving environment.
- Strategic, creative, and able to work collegially with others in an office culture that values teamwork, curiosity, confidentiality and empathy.
- Effective Communicator: Expresses oneself clearly and empathetically in interactions with others and prioritizes an accessible and transparent style in all forms of communication, i.e., verbal and written, one-on-one and group, etc.
- Interpersonal Awareness: Builds and maintains positive and productive relationships and actively contributes as a member of working teams to achieve results.
- Professional Credibility: Takes responsibility for meeting goals, objectives, obligations, and solving problems while representing the mission, vision, and values of the organization; confidently and diplomatically speaks to issues that are of priority to the Chancellor and the leadership team.
- Critical Thinking: Obtains, analyzes, and evaluates information effectively in the face of ambiguity. Makes appropriate decisions based on relevant information and experience.

Required Qualifications
- Minimum of seven plus years related experience.
- Advanced, current knowledge Salesforce CRM and data governance.
- High aptitude for technology.
- Experience in managing budgets, contracts, and human resources.
- A demonstrated appreciation for academic culture and mission.
