Job description

The Environmental, Health and Safety Specialist is responsible for supporting the safety and health management needs at our Norwich, CT manufacturing facility. Responsibilities include, but not limited to, keeping all SOPs up to date, weekly and monthly inspections, receive and ship chemicals, provide basic safety training, signing hazardous waste manifest, filing bi-annual reports with the EPA and maintaining all required certifications. This position requires the candidate to be meticulous with being on time and present for the job, Monday through Friday.

· Keep Standard Operating Procedure up to date

· Test and inspect Safety Showers and Eye Wash Stations Weekly

· Inspect Hazardous Waste area weekly

· Inspect Fire extinguishers, emergency lights, spill kits, PPE and first aid kits Monthly

· Keep all PPE in stock

· Unpack and properly store all incoming chemicals

· Maintain chemical inventory to ensure facility compliance

· Track and document all employee safety training

· Conduct daily lab safety inspections

· Keep all Nalas safety licenses up to date

· Support training of new hires on basic safety

· Provide and keep up to date all safety training

· Work with EH&S team to improve lab safety

· Provide assistance in PPE requirements for lab and manufacturing operations

· Administer Respiratory program including fit testing and medical evaluations

· Distribute and manage required chemical exposure monitoring for OHSA regulated chemicals.

· Shipping chemicals

· Schedule and assist with waste pickup

· Sign hazardous waste manifest and keep on file

· File biannual report to EPA

· Acts as Primary Emergency Coordinator and initiates evacuations procedure in the event of an emergency

· Maintain DOT training required to ship hazardous chemicals including waste

· Maintain OSHA First Responder Awareness Level training to act as Emergency Coordinator

· CSP certification preferred

A bachelor’s degree in safety, industrial hygiene, environmental health, health physics, or other safety related field is required; plus, two (2) to five (5) years of relevant occupational safety and health work experience. Additional safety and health certifications, such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP), highly desired. The successful candidate will also have a strong working knowledge of OSHA regulations, to include 29 CFR 1910, 29 CFR 1926, 29 CFR 1904, and 29 CFR 1960.

· Computer skills required and proficiency in Microsoft Suite/365.

• Ability to learn new software.
• Ability to prioritize and manage multi-functional tasks.

· Strong organizational skills and detail oriented.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential.
• Must be able to work independently and as part of a team.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $60,000.00 - $95,000.00 per year
