Perform operations of heavy equipment as assigned. This position is located in Ashdown, Arkansas.
Job Description:

Essential duties:
  • Operate heavy equipment such as dozer, track hoe, backhoe, articulated dump trucks, mining trucks, motor grader, etc. in load/haul activities, reclamation activities (spoil placement, spoil grading and erosion repair), pit advancement, trenching, road maintenance, topsoil removal and replacement, and pit bottom cleaning activities.
  • Perform proper equipment startup and shut down procedures and communicate any maintenance items to the supervisor so proper maintenance can be planned.
  • Operate within acceptable range of all gauges on instrumentation panel.
  • Perform all job duties in accordance with MSHA law and regulations, established company safety policies, along with state and federal environmental regulations in a safe manner consistent with the North American Mining safety culture.
  • Practice defensive driving and operating at all times.
  • Must maintain a valid driving record (MVR) and in good standings.
  • Willing to be cross trained, task trained on all site equipment.
Other duties:
  • Work with other equipment in a safe and organized manner.
  • Assist in water management activities, reclamation, load/haul, and maintenance activities, as necessary.
  • Miscellaneous work related to mining activities and operation of ancillary equipment. Some of these activities will occur outside the cab of the equipment.
  • Assist maintenance department with routine repairs.
  • Keep supervisor informed of any potential problems.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Must be able to judge depth of cut by feeling lever, listening and feeling for stalling action; also understand basic mechanical workings of heavy equipment to operate properly, within tolerances as well as perform preventative maintenance and servicing on occasion.
  • Must have the ability to work with GPS units in the equipment.
  • Having the knowledge and ability to respond to emergencies and unpredictable situations.
  • Ability to recognize unsafe & adverse conditions and the knowledge to correct them.
Required Education and Training:
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Two years’ experience operating heavy off-road construction equipment.
Minimum Requirements:
  • Experience as an HEO preferred.
  • Clean MVR.
  • Ability to work primarily days with potential nights and weekends.
