Hood Packaging is currently recruiting for an Industrial Control Technician for our Calgary Plastics Division.

The responsibility of the Industrial Control Technician is to ensure the proper functioning of the electronic control systems present on the production equipment and auxiliary systems, and to participate in the continuous improvement and safety projects.

Functional Responsibilities

• Provide technical support while training users on the best use of existing equipment
• Seek actions to improve or update existing equipment; Make recommendations to your immediate supervisor by establishing a realistic budget
• Maintain all technical documentation related to its activities (technical plan, work procedure, drawings, etc.)
• Regularly perform system inspections to ensure they are functioning properly
• Assist the Maintenance Purchaser on related critical parts inventory
• Train on the new technology and share his knowledge back with the plant team
• Provide technical support on existing VFD motor drive systems, PLCs, HMIs and Industrial Communication Network and troubleshoot/repair machine breakdowns.
• Provide technical support to upgrade obsolete systems or parts
• Other duties as assigned

Education & Experience

5 to 7 years PLC programming experience and Associates Degree in Electronics Technology; OR equivalent certification or 7 to 10 years' experience in field and some post-secondary

Skills

• Proficient working knowledge of Allen Bradley and Siemens PLC’s/controls/protocols platforms
• Proficient working knowledge of VFD motors and motor controllers
• Working knowledge of Parker, B&R, ABB and Lenze drives/controllers
• Ability to prepare technical reports for documenting issues/changes to equipment
• Ability to implement changes and improvements
• Stay up-to-date and skilled in the newer technology
