Job Title: Maintenance Worker 5, Locksmith

JOB SUMMARY
The primary function of this position is to inspect, troubleshoot, repair and maintain all MCSO Jail locks and associated equipment.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Troubleshoots Locks and associated components.
-
Installs new Locks, parts and maintain as needed.

Performs minor repair work, carpentry, painting and plumbing, as needed.

Analyzes work order requests and develop a cost effective and efficient plan in order to complete the job.

Performs preventive maintenance.
-
Takes inventory of parts.
-
Performs State required smoke, fire, and fire door egress testing with outside contractors.
-
Makes necessary repairs/upgrades door to control systems.
-
Performs daily monitoring of all work sites and work crews
-
Responds to afterhours emergency maintenance requirements.

Completes purchase order requests, order and pick up.
-
Attends Inmate Trusty Supervision training, maintain certification, and supervise inmate work crews.
-
Train employees.
-
Checks and maintains tools periodically in order to ensure proper operation and safety.
-
Checks and maintains tools and equipment in compliance with established tool control policies.
-
Keeps work area clean and organized and uses safety cones and signage when required.
-
Acts in capacity of Supervisor in Supervisor's absence.
-
Performs facility inspections to ensure compliance with ADA, OSHA and Florida Model Jail Standards.

Preform extra related job duties as assigned.

Complete an online lock smith certification course with hands-on practice with materials, tools, and processes, and study their applications for commercial locks within 6 months of hearing.

Complete certification for the following within the 24 months of hire, according to availability:

Correction Products Corporation, locks/cores. (18 months)

Brinks Corporation, locks/ cores. (24 Months)

Corbin Russwin, locks/cores. (12 months)

Best, locks/cores. (6 months)

Online certification for basic lock smith from Ashworth college. (6 months)

Bio readers. (24 months)

May be required to provide disaster assistance during times of emergency in any capacity deemed appropriate.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
Vocational or Technical School. 3 years minimum of prior related work experience.
Special Qualifications:
Valid Florida Driver’s License. EPA Refrigerant Certification required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to make recommendations or decisions which usually affect the entire department.
- Ability to apply technical and detailed guidelines.
- Moderate analytic ability is needed to gather and interpret data where results/answers can be found after analysis of several facts.
- Ability to use independent judgment to identify, select, and apply the most appropriate of available guidelines and procedures, interpret precedents, and adopt standard methods or practices to meet variations in facts and/or conditions.
- Ability to maintain contact with officials at higher levels on matters requiring cooperation, explanation and persuasion, as well as with the public involving the enforcement of regulations, policies and procedures.
- Ability to be responsible for orienting and training others and assigning and reviewing their work.
- Ability to act in a "lead" or “senior" capacity over other positions performing essentially the same work or related technical tasks and reporting to a higher level on a formal basis.
- Ability to work from a general outline of duties and responsibilities.
- Ability to perform technical or trades-based work that requires a solid understanding of basic algebra and statistics OR use of heavy equipment. Some of the tasks performed include participating in data collection and detailed analysis; reporting on the accomplishment of specific departmental goals and tasks; OR operating or repairing heavy equipment (bulldozers, cranes, graders).
- Ability to work in a responsive environment where co-workers or citizens bring problems for resolution.
- Ability to determine problems and create individual solutions for issues.
- Ability to work with less than ten co-workers who are mostly engaged in the same activities.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The work is light and requires exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force to move objects. Additionally, the following physical abilities are required:
- Balancing: Maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling while walking, standing or crouching on narrow, slippery, or erratically moving surfaces. The amount of balancing exceeds that needed for ordinary locomotion and maintenance of body equilibrium.
- Climbing: Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles and the like, using feet and legs and/or hands and arms. Body agility is emphasized.
- Crouching: Bending the body downward and forward by bending leg and spine.
- Feeling: Perceiving attributes of objects, such as size, shape, temperature or texture by touching with skin, particularly that of fingertips.
- Grasping: Applying pressure to an object with the fingers and palm.
- Handling: Picking, holding, or otherwise working, primarily with the whole hand.
- Hearing: Perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction. Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, and to make the discrimination in sound.
- Kneeling: Bending legs at knee to come to a rest on knee or knees.
- Lifting: Raising objects from a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally from position-to-position. Occurs to a considerable degree and requires substantial use of upper extremities and back muscles.
- Manual Dexterity: Picking, pinching, typing, or otherwise working, primarily with fingers rather than with the whole hand as in handling.
- Mental Acuity: Ability to make rational decisions through sound logic and deductive processes.
- Pulling: Using upper extremities to exert force in order to draw, haul or tug objects in a sustained motion.
- Pushing: Using upper extremities to press against something with steady force in order to thrust forward, downward or outward.
- Reaching: Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.
- Repetitive Motion: Substantial movements (motions) of the wrist, hands, and/or fingers.
- Speaking: Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word including the ability to convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately and concisely.
- Standing: Particularly for sustained periods of time.

- Walking: Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances or moving from one work site to another.
