TITLE/GRADE/SALARY HIRING RATE: Assistant Mechanic – PRA 4 ($17.95/Hr)

WORK LOCATION: Midway State Park, Bemus Point, NY

WORK SCHEDULE:

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Under the direction of the Park Manager or designee, the incumbent will assist the Trades Generalist-Mechanic and be responsible for performing a variety of semi-skilled maintenance, repair and related activities as assigned including but not limited to the following:

· Performs routine tasks in the repair, maintenance, and servicing of automotive and mechanical equipment such as service and adjustment of brakes, replacement of wheel bearings, and the removal and replacement of such components as starters, fuel pumps, water pumps, gas tanks, exhaust system components, shock absorbers, springs, and radiators.

· Performs minor engine repairs as well as tune-ups according to manufacturer’s specifications.

· Performs preventive maintenance inspections of vehicles, amusement rides and equipment following preventive maintenance schedules to insure safe and trouble-free performance.

· Following specific instructions, incumbents assist journey-level positions in making minor and major mechanical repairs by performing such tasks as disassembling and assembling engine components or mechanical equipment, cleaning parts and inspecting them for wear, and performing activities such as grinding valves and valve seats according to specifications and specific instructions.

· Operating motor vehicles, amusement rides, and other types of motorized equipment as assigned.

· Following operating manuals and specific instructions, makes repairs and performs routine service and preventive maintenance inspections on a variety of mechanical equipment such as amusement rides and grounds equipment to insure efficient and trouble-free operation. Cleans or replaces defective parts, adjusts equipment, lubricates moving parts, and checks and fills hydraulic units.

· May perform welding using electric or oxy-acetylene welding equipment not requiring complex planning and layout or the use of special procedures.

OPERATIONAL NEEDS:

· Must have experience in mechanical maintenance and repair.

· Must possess and maintain a valid Driver’s License as a term and condition of employment.

· Must be available to work a variable schedule that includes weekends, holidays and/or evening shifts.

· Must be physically able to perform medium to heavy physical labor.

· Must be reliable, flexible, and willing to work in a team setting.

· Applicants must be able to communicate effectively with other staff and park patrons in a responsible and courteous manner.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Two years of experience or completion of a course of study in mechanical equipment maintenance and repair such as automotive, commercial truck, heavy equipment, or small engine maintenance and repair.
